I hesitated starting this thread, but I guess I'll go for it.

Pre iPad release, the inability of Apple's device to run Flash was considered by many its downfall. Remember the Apple promotional image controversy, where Apple used an image of the iPad running the nytimes.com homepage but showed it displaying flash content properly? I just browsed to New York Times' website and noticed that all of the front page picture slideshows and video stories displayed and functioned perfectly. In fact I haven't come across a single blue lego all weekend.

Has anyone else found this Flash thing to be a none issue?
 
For the sites that are "iPad ready" it doesn't matter, but a lot of restaurant and retail store websites are still quite flash-heavy.

Not a big deal to me though, if I absolutely need the information from a website using flash I can just use LogMeIn.
 
Haven't run into an issue. Always thought it was way overstated, though. Your mileage may vary.
 
Nearly a month in not one issue. Glad to see Jobs and then Microsoft officially come out against it. If Adobe wants to come out with a tool that supports open standards in this space, no one will mind.
 
For me, definitely a non-issue. I don't visit many sites which rely on Flash. Many sites are shifting away from Flash anyway, or at least have non-Flash versions.

OK, so using the iPad means I don't play Evony anymore. It was a waste of time anyway, and now I can waste my hours playing Diner Dash on the iPad and watching movies curled up in my bed. Worthwhile trade-off.
 
The only thing that I have run into that really needs flash is hulu and hopefully that'll be fixed soon enough.
 
Yes because its the only reason I haven't bought an iPad yet. I would love to ditch my netbook for a shiny new iPad bought if I am going to have to boot up my netbook to visit 50% of the sites frequent it just doesn't make sense. I hold out hope that these sites come around to html5 or release iPad apps.
 
Good riddance I say. I also use click2flash on my Mac so I can choose when I want to allow flash instead of letting it run wild on it's own. Flash has been abused so bad on the Internet that I really do hate it. Flash = garbage.
I think the thoughts on flash post by Jobs is brilliant.
Anything worth viewing will be evolved into html5.

I find it funny that now after three years adobe is finally giving some attention to the issue for mobile. All the Apple competitors will feature it as an apple iDevice killer feature, and it will be their downfall in the end.

Jobs is right. Even though Microsoft echoed him, which i thought was a great move, they will still use 10.1

Screw adobe, they had a zillion chances. They will jump on the html5 train and be last to join the party. Fools.

On-topic: I never really use flash when I'm browsing the net. If I need to watch videos I use YouTube. On the bookmarked sites (the sites I pretty much only use) don't use flash so its not a big loss for me :)
 
All you people claiming that you don't notice the lack of Flash at all - do you really not visit sites like walmart.com, nba.com, and the sites of most chain restaurants?

OP should remember that this is a Mac forum, most of which are anti-Adobe, and anti-Flash, therefore there is going to be a degree of bias.

The restaurants I order from online have changed to non-flash versions for their ordering. Honestly, I haven't found anywhere I've needed flash so far to get something done.

BTW, you don't need Flash to shop on walmart.com. I'm not sure what you miss, but you can browse the store and shop without Flash.

No, I don't. All of the sites I have bookmarked and use regularly have not been an issue at all with regard to no flash. None of the sites I visit regularly use flash. My biggest issue is that our local newspaper forces me to the mobile site on my ipad and has no link to the regular site. I e-mailed in February and asked for them to add one, they said they were working on it, but it has yet to be done.

I'm not anti-Adobe at all. I love their products. Years ago I used to use flash for playing online games on sites like Miniclip. Now, I haven't been using flash at all really. I still use Photoshop and Fireworks a lot though (off topic? :p).
