Isn't the point of a GM that anyone can install it... it's the final release.

So technically, no... PB do get GM, as can anyone, if you know how.

No, the point of a GM is for developers to have the final reference version of the software. The point of the public release is for the public. May be the same version, but the timing difference is for a reason.

As to your second statement: sure, but that's not the PB "version" (as there is no PB version).

You missed the point though - there aren't (or at least not the last time I tried) any restrictions to just DFU installing it in iTunes.

As there aren't really for any developer beta either these days. That's not really anything new or different. That said, the GM isn't made available to PB testers (even though they can perhaps obtain it and install it via their own means, just like essentially any other builds that might be there for PB testers).

How will we be able to go from public beta to 10 without restoring? Delete profile?

It depends. If Apple releases a newer beta (say, 10.1) prior to the final release, then the public beta continues. Deleting the profile will ensure that you are back on the official channels for the downloads and you will accordingly be able to download iOS 10, provided it has a newer build number.

There is no value to having the beta profile at this point... you can keep it or delete it. It will not affect your ability to get the General Release of iOS 10 on Sep 13... but there's no reason to keep it either... the next beta cycle will (most likely) require a new beta profile.

So if I used the DFU method tonight I'd get the GM? Or 9.3.5?
You will get 9.3.5 if you just use iTunes. Unless you get the GM ipsw file from somewhere.

Not sure about that. The expiration data is way up like May 2019. And no longer states the iOS version in the name like in the past. So potentially the same profile will work going forward.

Maybe it's the dev beta that requires a new profile with each release cycle... but was sure the public beta did too... if my info was wrong, sorry about that. :D

Oh I dont know if you are wrong. Just saying the name used to be like "iOS 9 Beta software Profile" or whatever. Now it doesnt and the expiry is WAY out. Not sure why they would expire it so far out if it was only good for the current cycle. Who knows. They expired iOS9 profile before the last beta was released!

Fwiw, the public beta profile makes no reference to the iOS version anymore, either.

Just FYI, if you try to use the ipsw without Xcode 8 installed in El Cap you get error 14.

Is public beta enrolment closed? I've been running it on my iPad Air. Confident enough to install it on my iPhone. Doesn't seem like there's an option to install the profile from Apple's public beta site.

Hmm, I was a PB user, and I have something available in Software Update. So....did I just forget to install the latest PB release? Or are some people getting GM by accident?

I don't think I missed the latest update, but I can't be sure. They were coming pretty often.

It certainly appears that this is the case. My 5s is on the beta, and I was considering buying the newly discounted / storage-bulked 6s, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way for me to get the 6s on the beta too (so I can restore my 5s backup to it), so I'll have to wait.

You can see what build you have to see if you are in fact on the latest beta or not. (Alternatively perhaps you have a developer profile rather than a public beta one?)

I'm sure I don't have a dev profile, but I'm on 10.0.1 (14A403) after updating, which I believe is the GM. Hmm...
