If you are on PB then just delete the profile and find the DEV one on the internet and it installs GM over the PB with no issues.

I'm right there with you. I'm not a dev but have gotten all 8 of the iOS 10 betas, and now the GM.

Thst poster actually ended up realizing that a developer profile was in fact in play, perhaps the same thing might be the case for you?

You missed the point though - there aren't (or at least not the last time I tried) any restrictions to just DFU installing it in iTunes.
No, it is you who missed the point of the GM release itself.

And its far far easier than that to install the GM on a device running the Public Beta. Merely delete the Public Beta profile and install the Developer Beta Profile and bingo, you're seeded the GM like every other Dev.

Is public beta enrolment closed? I've been running it on my iPad Air. Confident enough to install it on my iPhone. Doesn't seem like there's an option to install the profile from Apple's public beta site.
Beta period has ended.
