FML.
Today, I went to work as a lifeguard. My last day of work as a lifeguard this summer, in fact. Today, the pool wasn't open, we were simply closing it, the pool cover was on and all.
We were cleaning up when a kid came to swim, he came from awhile away and looked really hot, so I let him swim. Forgetting I had the cover still on, I ran to take the cover off the pool, shoving my iPhone in the pocket of my hoodie.
I rolled the blanket off. As I pulled the last 10%, my phone fell out of my pocket, landing hard on the concrete on the side of the pool. I grimaced. That's going to leave a rather decent scratch on my new 3G S. *sigh* But no, what's this? It bounced a good three feet from the concrete, over the small barrier separating concrete and pool, INTO the pool. I almost collapsed. I could deal with the scratches, not this.
Freaking out, I lunged at the water, sweatpants, hoodie and sneakers still on. I just missed the phone with my grasp as it sunk deeper. Freaking out (this happened so quickly) I dove in, under the cover which was still partly on, fully clothed, to save my phone.
For those of you wondering, this phone SINKS. And I mean SINKS. By the time I got it it hit the bottom. I pushed off the bottom to the surface, almost suffocating when I forgot the cover was still on, I pushed it up and went to the side.
My colleague was dying of laughter. I grimaced at her and looked at the kid who too was laughing hysterically. I, was not.
What's worse? Two years ago I got pushed in the pool with my iPod Nano in my pocket, ruining it. Since then I've had gadget-meets-water nightmares quite frequently. This will not help.
On top of that, I had to work for nine more hours. I tried to power off my phone, but the touch screen wouldn't work. It then said "This device is not compatible with iPhone." or something; no device was plugged in. I wrapped it in my towel, now I'm at home with a bowl of rice and a damaged, pink-sensored iPhone.
FML. I avoided water this whole year. My last day, I wasn't even supposed to get near water, THIS happens.
