Once the new Mac Pro starts shipping, these refurb may stick around online for longer blocks of time.

I was wondering if that would happen myself. The refurb's seem to be flying off the shelf but it must just be beacuse that is one of the few options to buy from right now if you are in need of a new/refurbed Mac Pro and want apple care.

What I would like to see is if apple will drop the prices of the old Mac Pro in the refurb section once the nMP is released.

That is just normal. If look at the other refurb macs. Generally the 2011 ones have higher discount percentages than the 2012 ones do. So year-2 lower priced than year - 1 . ( get odd hiccups when the newest version sees a price cut so that newest is close to same price as standard refurb discount methodology (e.g., this last retina MBP 13" release) . The newest Mac Pro going in the opposite direction of that. )

However, if they remain highly popular due to the entry levels price increase and form factor performance than this may be one of those odd ball cases where the percentage stays the same. Until the new Mac Pro gets a solid reputation, I expect that refurbs and high quality used models will not crater in price any time soon. Demand high , supply low ===> higher price pressure.
