I don’t understand the desire for the iPad to become a Mac running MacOS. What Apple is doing is making the iPad as powerful as their Macs because it will end up being able to run the same apps you find on MacOS, but within the iPadOS environment. They’re going to different, in the input abilities, but the end results will be either exactly the same or so close as to not being different.

Some of us (like me) would like the option, considering how expensive and capable (RAM, storage, CPU) the new iPad Pros are, to use it as a tablet and as a full-blown computer should the need arise.

It is a full blown computer - it’s just not going to be one that runs MacOS. What will happen is the apps you use and like on MacOS will eventually be no different on iPadOS, even if they’re not currently.

I don't need macOS to literally run on an iPad, as long as iPadOS can handle file management better than it does now, and also multi-window workflow that has some sense of organization.

Far easier to just let macOS run on the iPad if desired, via hypervisor or what not. Don't want to run macOS? Then don't run it. Both ecosystems are healthy enough to stand on their own.

Well we will know Apple intentions at WWDC, not before. I seriously doubt that MacOS will ever be on iPad, but I think that they can announce a pretty big software leap on iPadOS… we will know in a month.
I‘m wondering if Apple is planning a way for Mac apps to run on iPadOS or at least add frameworks and support to make it possible and easier to port from macOS. Considering how Big Sur enables iOS apps on the Mac and what catalyst does (I know it’s not perfect), the concept seems possible.

This is my first ipad. It was this or the wacom workstation. The extra ram will help with 3d sculpting.

Personally, I don’t want macOS on the iPad if it’s to replace iPadOS. If I did, I’d just use a MacBook.

I would however like to see perhaps a DeX alternative that boots up a MacOS VM when connected to an external display (while keeping the iPad screen on iPadOS).
Yea, i’d love that, or at least proper external display support and improved multitaskin/multiple app support. I can dream. I am expecting a disappointing WWDC for iPad OS.

That would make sense, merging macOS and iOS into the same chip architecture does seem to lend some compatibility between the two. It would be a developers dream to have one code-base for both platforms

What leads you to believe that Apple is making iPadOS run same apps you find on MacOS? There is no support for running MacOS (ARM) executables on iPadOS yet. If you are referring to iPad version of MacOS apps there is no feature parity between versions. Look no further than Apples own Music app, Photos app, Spotify, MS Office, etc... iPad versions are missing features.
