Was hoping for some updates on the status of MobileMe. My subscription is ending March 16.

Still think something must be up with ME.

Either Apple is planing on giving up some of it for FREE or they're gonna keep 100% of the profit for themselves by cutting out resellers.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

Apple cant release all their goodies at once. What would we have to get excited about for the rest of the year?

I agree with you on that one, but since we cannot register a new account with MM or buy a year of service (we all know the boxed version is no longer available), expecting a announcement soon is legitimate...

I am really looking forward to using this service as Google is not working very well for me...

Can you not sign up for a free trial? I did it just after the boxes were removed to shotgun a decent email... Maybe it will get announced at the usual developer iOS5 preview that may happen in April, like the ones before it?

I would have thought anything like what has been rumored to be included in MobileMe would need some extensive OS work.

53 Days till I get charged :D

Except last time they did something major to MobileMe at the same time as releasing a new iPhone and OS the service collapsed for weeks (launch). When they did the new web interface and Calendar system they didn't fully integrate the changes in an iOS update for months. I'm not looking forward to them updating MobileMe at the same time as iOS 5 because they'll probably run into issues due to releasing two major product revisions at the same time.

That is true. It might be that some features of MobileMe become free before OS5 gets released. Then the cloud storage comes in September. That would avoid that problem second time round. They could even leave iDisk as charged storage.

....NO. I was in the Apple Store yesterday and they still had boxed copies of MobileMe on the shelves!

I knew there was no use asking the question since the standard answer is "I don't know anything about that"...

There's definitely some problem with mobile me, or in-fighting within Apple about it's direction & implementation.

It would take only a minute or two for Jobs to mention it. Since he did not says a lot about the troubled service.

Did you notice how they went out of their way to say "post PC ERA" several times? They want us in iPads (sooner rather than later) so they can dump the less profitable computers.

Since we already own an iPhone and Apple computer, one would think if only to build goodwill Apple would make all of MobileMe free.

Hearing "parts of it may be free" smacks of greed. If we must pay, then make it a flat fee for the entire service. If they break it into free modules and pay modules they can shove it. I'm out.

On The Nickel, over there....
what new MM front page? mine is the same as usual..

I may have seen it earlier today, just once.
I may have just seen the preview of it. When I went to my MM login page, the background was a lighter shade of blue and the background had outlines/shadows of an iMac, iPhone and iPad. It looked cool, but maybe only because it was different.

Computers still earn Apple some of their highest margins. The iPad is one of their lowest margin products. They are hardly "dumping less profitable computers".

What they are doing is expanding their reach with iDevices and iOS and moving some iOD features to Mac OS X. Lion will welcome hoards of news users to the platform as "you already know how to use OS X".

I think you are referring to what happens when you login using something other than an '@me.com' address.

For example, in the login field, start putting in username@hotmail.com (including the '@hotmail' part) and it will change to what you are talking about.

This is for people who don't use MobileMe but have 'Find My iPhone'.

Yup. Just tested that and indeed once you try and sign in as "hotmail.com" the background changes.

What's it mean? Have no idea. But it appears this notion of MobileMe being free might not be the case at all.

I'm disappointed myself. I was checking hourly for an update. I have about 40 days left :-/. It has worked great so far.

But surely something must be imminent in light of the fact that you can now longer 'buy' MobileMe online or in Apple retail stores. It would be interesting to find someone whose renewal has fallen due in the last week or so since MM 'disappeared' and find out if they have actually been charged for their renewal.

Has anyone actually phoned that Apple Store and asked about buying MobileMe to see what they say? (I don't have the time to at the moment)

[Edit]

From this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1107046/ it looks like people are just getting renewed for either 10 days or until 8th March; I'm not sure which though. It would be useful to find another renewal to find out which
