Just did, $250.

Yeah, not sure what the OP is doing but I traded my 2015 12.9 in at Apple yesterday for $250.

Selling privately will almost certainly see a significantly higher return but my touch screen was starting to act a little wonky and I wouldn’t have been able to get top resale value without lying about it and screwing someone over.

I have sold on Swappa several times, as recently as last month. The fact remains, for many people it's still not worth the hassle.
But that is my question. What is the hassle? I mean if you ship your ipad or phone out to one of these services. Or to someone on swappa or another site like that. It is the same thing. Either way you got to send it away to get your money.

Now I really don't care what anyone else does. If they want to accept half of what they could get for an item. That is on them. If their item is worth $500. And they are willing to do $250 on a trade in and lose $250 to Apple or someone else in trade in. That doesnt matter to me. Not my money lol.

Was selling on swappa a good experience? I just recently heard of them. I have a 256gb 8+ with case and AppleCare listed on CL but not much interest. Thought I might try swappa. Does AppleCare help in selling?

TIA

In the past when I've asked about the trade-in price at Apple stores the employee has qualified that that is the price today, and they fluctuate depending on how many they are getting. One time they even said they were looking to recyle one of their personal devices and saw the price go up. I wonder if the website says the offer can fluctuate somewhere, and I am guessing places like Gazelle also put a time limit on their offer.

Supply and demand.

  • Take some (good!) pictures
  • Do research to understand fair asking price
  • Field questions from low-ballers and/or tire-kickers
  • Send device, and pray that the buyer is not a weirdo and requests a refund or gives you some other hassle

Also... your example of trading in @ $250 vs. selling @ $500 is not realistic IME. Maybe there is $100 difference after fees, time and such. Which is what you're giving up by avoiding the scenarios I described above.

Yes, it's a pretty good experience, as long as you can handle the scenarios I describe above. I personally don't think AppleCare helps. I got a refund on mine ($100 pro-rated refund from Apple), which I certainly could not made up in $100 increased selling price.

Maybe you have choose the wrong classification on the apple website? One of the last questions is: is your iPad FREE of liquid damage. Most people only see liquid and choose no, instead of yes!

That is so true, people don’t read.
