More then deaf people like close captioning.

not trying to be a dick but why do you need subtitles?

I use it all the time because I wight miss something and the words might stay up longer, if my earbuds get pulled out I don't have to panic, my siblings To loud for me to hear it, if I want to look up something it spells it out (I only look up complicated), and the sound can be down (it hurts my ears). All in all I think that it is a useful thing to have.
Ps I use my iPod touch, so it's not a problem for me but I would miss it.

For many of us, subtitle support is indeed a big deal, for reasons from hearing trouble to wanting to watch foreign language films/shows and actually, y'know, understand the narrative.

Almost every foreign film on netflix instant has the subtitles imbedded.

for the handful of movies that are in english but have optional subtitles, well, buy a PS3 if you can't wait a year for the apple tv.

I speak perfect English, and I find myself turning on the subtitles on DVDs all the time.

Think situations like, dialogs during action movies, or your big macho hero type speaking with a deep, throaty slur, trying to sound cool, or actors with foreign accents. So, there's a reason why subtitles and close captions are there, and it doesn't just benefit the hearing impaired.

Really is a dick..!

Well if the op isn't deaf he is bitching for no reason. And who doesn't have problems with British accents?

I stumbled across this forum while searching for info on the ATV2. I can't recall encountering such lack of empathy for a disability before. I am half a step away from being stone deaf, and C/C is crucial. Going to the theater is just a memory.. I encountered the same pathetic attitude with a Netflix customer no-service rep a few months ago when I inquired about C/C and streaming videos. It was a very very difficult conversation for numerous reasons. Yes, razor.. you are a dick.

This has got to be the weirdest 'sentence' ever posted here that was non-spam. LOL

I have to agree that the hatred of subtitles is appalling. There have been times when I have used them if the ambient noise in the room is a little too loud and I don't want to miss anything and certainly one would think that this Netflix subtitle info wouldn't be too difficult to translate to ATV. I can't imagine it is that difficult to program.

It's an option that some people would use, but most probably wouldn't. It's nice to have options.

Apple TV2 + Netflix + Subtitles

Yes it is possible. While playing any movie, hold the big whilte button on the apple tv remote. It gives you an options for subtitles. It took 6 months for me the figure it out.

not trying

it appears that you don't have to try, you just are...be grateful you don't need them now, you probably will...

Must be a ATV2 thing - my remote doesn't have a big white button! Wahhh

Netflix has 400+ movies and shows that are subtitled. The PS3 and Wii supports subtitles with Netflix.

I would think Apple TV would be the easiest of those to add subtitles. Yet it does not support subtitles with Netflix.

I know no one know when subtitles support will be added, but really! Subtitles has been supported on the PC/Mac since April, and on the PS3 and Wii since October.

The Apple TV does support subtitles in Netflix. I've used it a good half dozen times.
