There are rumors of two new Nexus phones and even two new Google branded smartwatches, but nothing (absolutely nothing I can remember of) about a new Nexus tablet.

It's a shame. I hoped for a new Nexus 7 2016 with updated specs. It's still my favorite tablet of all time. Still works great, but won't be getting Nougat and future updates anymore.

Anyone has heard anything about the future of Nexus tablets? I don't want a Pixel C.

Android tablets for this year haven't been announced. I'm not sure Google is going to be bringing one out. Their focus seems to be Chrome OS with Android apps.

True! But Chromebooks aren't exactly tablets.

On IFA Samsung will announce their new Tab S3 lineup, which seems like the only viable options this year.

Such a shame. I really wanted a new Android tablet.

If the rumored specs for the tab S3 are true, it will be a no buy for me.....it's time for Samsung to make a truly powerful tablet with S-pen capability and at least 10.1 to 12 inches in size.

Pixel C? You seem to have forgotten that.

Pixel is the new Nexus. You are unlikely to ever see another Nexus branded tablet. Chrome OS and Android are converging in the Android tablet space.

Pixel C was last year.

Agree with the other comments...Pixel C is likely all we'll see, though I do seem to recall seeing rumors about another Huawei Nexus this year and since it was already widely reported that HTC would make both phones, some speculated it might be a tablet.

Regardless, I don't expect to see another 7" mainstream Android tablet again, not with so many large display phones..just too close in size.

But the price of the Nexus 7 was so good :p

It's hard for me to believe it wasn't one of their more successful nexus

Unless there was very little margin (less than normal for nexus at least) or something

The lack of tablet optimized apps also matters less at that size

I would love to see a sequel to the 2013 Nexus 7. Give it the same 7" 1080p screen with dual front speakers, slimmer bezels, Snapdragon 820, 4GB of ram, USB-C and 32/64GB of storage. Price it $250 to $300.
But then again the iPad mini 4 was just $300 last week. Not sure if Google wants to battle with that and to be honest Apple is the king if the tablet.

I hear you on both counts, but particularly the second. I'd love to see it too, but iPad mini is indeed a beast

I just can't see much of a demand with the Nexus tablets. The last good one was the 2013 Nexus 7. Outside of that, Google has been focused on phones and Chromebooks.

Yes I think Google has given up on tablets (for now at least). Developers haven't shown huge interest in building apps for them on Android either, and that definitely limits customer interest in Android tablet devices.

The only mainstream Android tablet that still sells I think are the Galaxy tabs.

Yeah Samsung is still trying to sell decent quality tablets. But they aren't marketed very heavily because the market isn't there for them. It seems Apple and Microsoft are the only serious players in this space with their tablet devices. Both spend plenty on advertising.

Most Android tablets sold have got to be those very cheap devices at the very lowest end with questionable user experience issues and build quality.

If you want to do a lot of work, then Microsoft's Surface Tabs cannot be beat. If you want to do simple tasks and have long battery life with no frills, iPads are the best. Some people don't like the idea of setting up an anti-virus on a tablet.

With Chrome OS and Android inter-twined now, my next tablet is going to be a 2 in 1 Chromebook. Just going to ensure is has a decent mobile processor, at least 4gb of RAM, and a quality touch, HD screen. The iPad is useless for me due to its limitations and the Surface is more computer/tablet/price than I need. (I have a feeling many people will start seeing the Chromebook in the same light I do once word of mouth and advertising get going.)

I'll be in line right behind you. My only qualifications are it must be really well built with quality materials and hardware. I've used quite a few Chromebooks whose quality was marginal at best. I personally want hardware in a form like the iPad Pro or another convertible I just bought, the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S, with a removable Keyboard of the quality of Microsofts Type Cover---and that size as well, about 12", give or take.

Evan Blass has tweeted that a new nexus (or pixel) 7 tablet with 4GB RAM will launch before years end. Hooray!!

That would be awesome. Nougat, maybe QHD display, 4GB RAM, built by Huawei... Would be excellent.

Day one purchase if true. That would be awesome! I miss the Nexus 7.

Me too, it was my first ever tablet and made me realize they're really awesome for movies, browsing, and games in bed or on trips when a laptop is annoying/not portable enough. The build quality was a little iffy on mine, but I would buy a new one for fun.
