Exactly. You should be able to transfer them to something. Some app.
At least sync them to a folder and I will turn BBEdit or TextMate lose on them.
Has to be something right? Otherwise it is pretty useless.

Well, that is a bit of a crappy solution coming from 11 years of syncing notes with my Palm (Treo/etc)

Well, I hope so. Still kind of sucks and seems like a "sticky" notes solution to something that could have been handled better.

Yeah, the 'notepad' functionality in the Mac OS (dating back to the 'Notepad' Desk Accessory, through the Stickies app, to the Stickies widget,) has always been an 'also-ran'. I'm hoping that the notes in Mail.app in Leopard finally fixes it. I was horrified when Tiger came out to find that the Stickies widget didn't save your notes immediately. (I wrote a note, then closed Dashboard, then Dashboard crashed, and I lost my note.) If you're not going to save the stickies database immediately upon an edit, then provide some built-in 'save' functionality.
I currently use NotePad, which, among other things, provides iPod syncing. Unfortunately, a quick look makes it appear that the developer has disappeared, so you can't register it anymore.
Not really. There is nothing to sync with so what would they do? At least wait until Leopard when you have system wide todo and notes available. Then the situation might change.

Sorry, but syncing notes is something they had in Palm 11 years ago. It is not going to stop me but I am going to miss syncing notes (with categories, etc).

This is where you'll find a cheap (or even free) third party solution to deal with the notes. They're just text files, as someone else noted. They already have programs like that for the iPod (which admittedly aren't as cool, since you can't type on an iPod).
So, just out of curiosity, why wouldn't one take notes into an email, then email them to them self or anyone else. It's like note sharing.
I realize if you're going to have a notes app, it would be nice to have it be able to do something with the notes, but I really don't see this as a deal killer.

Amazing out of all those reviews, not one of them mentioned notes. NOT ONE!
It is one of the 16 different applications and no one mentioned it.
That screenshot is great but it doesn't talk about syncing or groups or how many it can handle, nothing.
They all just repeat each other over and over again without really going into good detail about HOW things work.

Yes, I have way too much time on my hands waiting for this thing.
The reason I am crazed about Notes, is because it is a big feature of the Palm Pilots and Treos I have used for 11 years. I use them to actually write things down (lists, ideas, passwords, etc) and they sync up to my computer when I sync. There I can do the same. They are great for directions and for reviews of things while you are on the road.
Emailing it to myself is ok, but really just a hack.

- Type note
- Done
Email:
- Open email
- Address email to myself
- Type subject
- Type note
- Send
- On computer get note sent to myself
- Copy and paste it into real note application
- How do I access it again? Edit it again on the iPhone?
