Yes, I have way too much time on my hands waiting for this thing.

The reason I am crazed about Notes, is because it is a big feature of the Palm Pilots and Treos I have used for 11 years. I use them to actually write things down (lists, ideas, passwords, etc) and they sync up to my computer when I sync. There I can do the same. They are great for directions and for reviews of things while you are on the road.

Emailing it to myself is ok, but really just a hack.

Notes:
- Open notes
- Type note
- Done

Email:
- Open email
- Address email to myself
- Type subject
- Type note
- Send
- On computer get note sent to myself
- Copy and paste it into real note application
- How do I access it again? Edit it again on the iPhone?

i have to agree notes are very important to me. on the ipod all you need to do is enable it for disk use and drag the text files to the notes folder. i'd be suprised if they didn't have a more advanced version of this.

Not only do Notes not sync AND there is no disk mode but apparently tasks don't either according to Pogue.

"Do To Do items show up on the iPhone? Do memos in the iPhone’s Notes program show up on the computer? No."

You just HAVE to be kidding me. This will kill of everyone in the Palm/Treo camp who actually uses their PDA for more than just a phone.

Not sure what these things are though...

I have used a palm longer than you, and I don't see the issue. I have lots of notes. But if the notes are on my phone, I don't necessarily need them on my pc, except a s backup.

Over looked yet vital

Inability to sync notes has been the deal breaker for me in looking for a Palm alternative. I think missing sync had a standalone that worked to sync Pocket PC with Entourage, but even that wasn't good enough to consider the switch.

Being able to catgorize and keep heeps of telephone and research memo SYNCED with my Mac is an essential tool in going from desk to field in my work - documentary production. It's the difference between having breakfast at a restaurant (ready to take on important contacts) and being tied to a desk because all your notes are on the PC. I keep a dozen past and current projects in Notes/Memo or whatever it's called in Garnet.

Does anyone know if you can record conversations on the iphone? Being able to "go on the record" at the flip of a switch is another biggie in this work (law permitting of course). I used it just yesterday to record last minute reservation numbers in a taxi on the way to the airport. Not to mention technical discussions that you have no hope of transcribing accurately during a phone call.

Hope someone's listening at Apple.

notes is important

I completely agree with you. I collect bits of important medical information and stick it into my Palm "memos" and I do need to easily sync them. This is a deal breaker for me also.

Also, I frequently use the "find" feature in the palm to find specific memos. Does anyone know if this exists in iphone? If not, could a third party offer it as a app through the internet? Richard
