Local best buy also had walk in inventory. I was going to go there after the Apple store once I got to play with the new models first. I assumed Apple would be sold out.
Yes. I ordered a space grey from Apple. Ended up returning it. And going to my local Best Buy. Was surprised they had all colors in stock. I ended up leaving with a gold Max. Was hesitant about the gold at first. But the more I look at it. The more I realize that it was a good choice to go with that instead of the space grey.

Didn't pre-order since I wanted to see them in person. Walked into the local Apple store at 1:00pm EST. Walked out at 1:30pm with a 256gb Gold Max. No lines and several models and sizes in stock.

Anyone else with a similar experience? Seems like demand is either low or they finally got inventory correct.
walked by just to see the craziness on iPhone day, stopped in on an unrelated matter, walked out with a 256 GB XS Max in Silver. what really bothers me is when I was pre-ordering the first time, it said it wouldn't be available at my store, and that I couldn't have it shipped there. Tbh I dont think i'll every preorder again. Seems like its location dependent

That is great, but mine came UPS at 10am this morning and I never had to leave my office.

This is where I get annoyed a lot. I literally pre-ordered in the first 2 mins. Apple can drop the ball a lot with getting their stock to customers day 1. It seems like its always easier to just wait in line. Sucks.
Im not sure what its like in the cities or even in the past but there was no "line" exactly. There was but it was just to talk to one of the employees outside and they just take your phone number down and send you a text saying come back in 15 mins. When you get back, they have a guy/gal bring it out from out back and you're purchasing right then and there. It was honestly very easy. No hassle.

I’ve been checking the local Apple store though the apple store app, and it shows currently unavailable for pickup.

Are there really more iPhone XS available if I go physically to the store? I don’t feel like driving 30 minutes.
yes. my 3 closest stores said the same thing and they had a ton.
