I don't believe Apple are stupid enough to do this. It is suicide. There is very little reason to lock down a desktop OSX, other than to kill the platform. Apple would have to clamp down on all scripting languages, plus Java. Additionally, no one would be able to develop applications for their own use anymore, like the story stated - businesses, universities.

Maybe this will be an option to get your application listed on the Apple Appstore, but you'll still be able to install applications as normal.

Overall, this story is BS. Someone posted this out of their arse. FUD. You cannot lock down a desktop OS. Unacceptable.

I agree 100%.....

On the flip side, I would like for a place almost like the app store to find all the different Mac Applications out there. I know about some of the places that have a few apps etc, but I would like a bigger one stop one shop type scenario, even if it isn't apple.... But hey that is just me.

Another consequence of a locked down 10.7 would be ALL your current applications bricked. How long do you think consumers would stand for that? Right from the get go - Apple would face a huge back lash, it would be a customer relations nightmare!

Users got frustrated initially with OSX10 - when they found their OS 9 apps wouldn't work, or delayed OSX10 upgrade due to incompatibilities. An OSX 10.7 lock down would be far worse.

SJ's RDF would have to be on extreme overdrive! :D

He has spoken, and the answer is, "Nope." Get over it people...

Then we can all breathe a sigh of relief.. except Kim Jong-il!!

If a lock down would happen, then I'd expect it to be OSX 11. Though, I could image that OSX 11.0 would be 'cloud' based, internet based - think Google Chrome OS. Something Radically different to OSX 10.
