I had gotten a Lumia 521 for a good bargain from the Microsoft Store and I have to admit that it's the best bargain phone out there right now.

Are there any other fellow Lumia owners here on the MacRumors forum?

I have a lumia 520 I use as a backup phone. It's ok for exactly that, a backup phone. Or for someone who needs an extremely basic smartphone/media player.

App selection is extremely poor for anything other than the major social networks, asphalt 8 and angry birds.

The camera actually took better photos than my old Nexus 4 though, especially indoors.

All in all, it's good for basic tasks like email, texting, gps, calling etc. but if your a big app user or use proprietary/obscure ones I'd stay away from windows phone. Although for $60 it's the best phone out there for the price. You can't beat it.

The 520 is a good basic phone, if you like it you should give the lumia 1020 a try. I ended up switching back to my iPhone. I'm just waiting for them to update to 8.1 and I might go back to my lumia 1020 the camera on it is amazing.

I have an unlocked 520 and a 1520. The 1520 is an awesome phablet and I like the Windows OS, but the lack of some features like the notification center, easily flipping on BT or adjusting volumes has me back on Android with my Moto X. Once 8.1 drops, I'll be back to my Lumia 1520 and can't wait to try everything out, including Cortana! :D

For someone wanting to try Windows phone, you can't beat the 520/521. Just be prepared to find alternate apps on WP, that you take for granted on Android and iOS.

Question... what is going to make Windows Phone 8.1 better than Windows Phone 8?

1. Action Center / Notification Center

2. Cortana aka Siri equivalent

3. Merging RT With Windows Phone

The beginnings of this merger are present in Windows Phone 8.1, from Microsoft’s repackaging apps in the .appx standard that it uses for Windows 8 applications to the support for “universal apps” built from the same HTML or JavaScript that will be accessible on both Windows Phone and in the Windows Store. The closer Microsoft comes to merging these similar platforms, the better, because it will result in a greater diversity of apps and possibly devices for consumers to get their hands on in the future.

4. Storage Options aka being able to store apps to SD cards (As of yesterday, OneDrive now allows for auto-uploading pictures, but this is just the beginning of flexible storage options on Windows Phone.)


5. Customizable On-Screen Buttons integrated into the Notification Center or directly on the screen (BT, Flashlight, WiFi connections, and so on)

I just ordered the 1520 to replace my Samsung Galaxy 4 which had just nasty battery life.

I sold my iPhone and am damn tired of waiting for Apple to do what all other phone manufacturers have done.

I do not like Android and I love the real estate of the 1520 screen.

The 1020 is easier to handle ..... but damn that 1520 screen.

Not sure what I will do .... but it will be soon.

My son was on Android for years and he dumped it recently for an iPhone 5s.

If you are on Verizon, then the new Icon is the phone for you. All the specs of the 1520, but in a 5" package. Waiting for AT&T to get a similar 5" form factor phone that has the specs of the Icon or the 1520.

Was looking for an old iPod Touch just for Internet Radio at home. Got an AT&T Lumia 520 from the MS store for $50 to use as an "iPod Touch" substitute.

Had Nokia phones back in the day before the iPhone - great phones.

Wanted to try Windows Mobile - find the phone and OS to be great. Most third party Windows Mobile apps seem half-baked compared to the iOS versions.

Use primarily Pandora and TuneIn Radio.

Haven't tried the phone part, but for $49 you can't go wrong, especially when my 5c is costing me $549... :eek:

If the Icon would have been available in December I would have picked one up to replace my 8X.

I what is interesting is how the Lumia 525 is the successor to it - it basically resolves the anaemic RAM issue (it now has 1GB) which puts it in a good position as a solid competitor to the many Android phones priced at the same range as the Lumia 525. It'll be interesting to see what Windows Phone 8.1 brings for the low end devices.

I've always tooted that I want to try a Lumia device.

I think later in the year I will pick up a Lumia 525 to replace my work phone, which is a Galaxy s3 Mini. Give it a few months and see how I like it. The Lumia is very affordable and I don't mind cutting my losses if Windows Phone isn't what I've come to expect it to be.

I debated waiting on the 525. Reviews have been very good with the 520/521. I decided to not to wait since I was able to get the 521 at a MS store for $69.99. As basically a way to look into Windows Phone OS, I felt I didn't want to spend more. Not sorry I didn't wait.

I really do enjoy using Windows Phone 8. Very smooth. Unfortunately for T-Mobile only two devices using the OS-- Lumia 521 and Lumia 925.

Yeah the Icon is very 5s like in shape, I prefer the larger size but hardware spec wise they are pretty much the same sans the screen
