Can someone explain to me what is wrong with a heavy carrier subsidy? It happens here in the UK all the time and we end up getting "free" flahship phones thanks to the subsidies.

How much do you pay for the monthly plan?

The phones aren't sold at a loss. I'm not sure if it's known what carriers pay Nokia for its phones. Carriers can give you the phones for $0 because they are selling contracts, not phones. Carriers are hoping to make enough from the contract to cover the phone subsidy and turn a profit.
