Thanks guys. My reminders are still hit and miss - and coupled with the fact that we can no longer organise the notifications in priority order (what is Apple's thinking behind this!!!) the whole debacle is made worse!

I may just splash out on Fantastical 2 - a lot of dough for an app, but really do need it so gotta bite the bullet!

FYI, Fantastical simply integrates/syncs with stock Reminders – you can use it to view your reminders (listed alongside Calendar events, if they're scheduled); create new ones; get notified via the app instead of the Reminders app; etc. – but it doesn't solve the problem discussed in this thread. I used Fantastical for years for all Calendar/Reminders notifications (just recently stopped), and this issue was still there. It seems to be a bug with the Reminders service at a system level, not with the Reminders app itself.

Using Fantastical does bring other benefits, of course, so go for it if you're interested! A annoyance for me was that checking off a scheduled reminder via the Fantastical widget or a notification doesn't clear the badge from the app icon (if you have it set up for badges = overdue reminders); you have to launch the app itself for the badge to clear. Also means that you'll still be notified of a scheduled reminder if you check it off "early," via the widget. It's been an issue for years; I've written them about it, etc. Not sure if iOS allows them to fix it.

P.S. You may be aware of this, but Reminders allows you to assign priority to reminders on a list ("!", "!!", etc.).

A massive thanks sir for saving me nigh on £6. For me the thing I really need is a loud alert and pop up on my screen. I've missed far too many reminders due to my manic job.

And the fact that I can't prioritise my reminders so they stay on top of notifications makes it even worse if lots of other notifications drown them down.

In the long run, if Apple can't sort these kinds of things out then it's back to reliable Android for me. What ever happened to "it just works"!!!

I agree this needs to be addressed, but a potential workaround in the meantime is to add the Reminders widget to your today view?

I do like how the lockscreen Reminders notifications (when they remember to go off!) are persistent – they stay on lockscreen until dismissed, even if you unlock the phone.

Ugh, I missed taking my medication today because the #%^* reminder notification didn't go off... (just got the "overdue" badge now, 5.5 hrs. later).

It's worrying the over reliance we have on gadgets and apps these days. But I share your frustrations re. the meds. Chuck in the iPhone and let's the both of us go Android ;)

Problem with me is that when things are busy they are so busy that I don't have time / forget to look at my phone. Hence need for an audible alert. Most times Ive looked at the reminders and realised Ive missed something!

I don't know about going back to Android, but I may check out that list of alternate apps in the other thread. (Taking these stomach pills will be temporary... but I will always need reliable reminders!)

I'm the same way with the Today widget, btw... out of sight, out of mind. Maybe if it were right on the lockscreen...

EDIT: Well, that other thread is a dud -- it just lists Fantastical (discussed above) and some other app that hasn't been updated in 4 yrs.

Jailbreak!!!! But no, I looked at Jailbreak apps and there aren't any greats like the old days such as LockInfo which had everything you'd need on the lock screen - and it looked good too!

I've had this problem going back to iOS 9 on my old iPhone 5S and now it continues on my iPhone 7 running the latest version of iOS 10. I keep going back to the Reminders app to see if the bug is fixed each time a new iOS update comes out, but given that this problem has been around for a couple years, I doubt that Apple is paying much attention to fixing it. I'm currently using an app called Tick Tick for my reminders. It works pretty well (it's never failed on a reminder), but still has bugs from time to time in other areas of the app. Wunderlist was the same way, it was reliable, but some features would get weird sometimes. I don't think there is a perfect reminders app out there, at least not that I have found yet. And most of the aftermarket apps charge an extra fee if you want Siri compatibility. I do miss that from the stock Reminders app, it is by far the easiest way to create a new reminder. That's why I keep going back to it hoping that Apple has fixed it.

Thanks for the tip – will check out Tick Tick. Tried out a few y'day (including Wunderlist), but they didn't seem to do the trick, for various reasons. (I agree that the ease of creating/editing reminders in the stock app is a big plus.)

EDIT: I think a problem is that many of these apps follow a "To Do" or "Task List" model, which is different from simple "Reminders" in a way I can't clearly articulate, except that it requires more steps to create a timed alert.

EDIT 2: Found an interesting one called MinimaList. It makes it easy to create and view both timed and untimed reminders. It does lack features like multiple lists (...after all, it's "minimalist"). An odd quirk is that it can sync w/Calendar, which sounds intriguing; but it works by creating a Calendar event for every new reminder (so I disabled this). The app also doesn't seem to allow you to create reminders that repeat biweekly, or on a custom schedule (only daily/weekly/monthly). I'm going to try it out for a while, in conjunction w/the stock app...

It's kinda pathetic that this bug is still around. I use reminders a lot but they've been rendered useless by this bug.

Ugh, now this MinimaList app is doing the same thing -- reminder doesn't go off, then turns red for "overdue" when I open the app. Could it be a deeper iOS issue?
