13 mini - I can’t figure out if I’m missing a setting somewhere, but I’m not getting notified of texts on my phone. I can have it in my hand, and I’ll hear the ding on the ipad across the room, but not on the phone in my hand.

I just don’t know where else to look for notification settings. And the volume is normal.

Okay, so I realized I get a ding notification if my phone is unlocked, but nothing when phone is locked. I do NOT have it set where I don’t get them when phone is locked, so I have no idea what I’m missing. I’ve looked at everything I can think of in notifications and message settings.

Have you toggled the Lock Screen setting for Messages notifications off and then back on? A reboot between might give it a nudge…and it might take more than one round of toggling.

I had an issue with the Dictation mic wanting to show in Messages and Safari even with Dictation off. Toggling a couple of times finally got rid of it.

Per the signature, it's the Watch. You don't get sound notifications when Watch is being used.

ADD: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204791

Notifications go to either your Apple Watch or iPhone, but not both.
[...]
If your iPhone is unlocked, you'll get notifications on your iPhone instead of your Apple Watch.
[...]
If your iPhone is locked or asleep, you'll get notifications on your Apple Watch, unless your Apple Watch is locked with your passcode.

Have you tried a hard reset?
1. Click volume up
2. Click volume down
3. Hold the sleep wake button for a few seconds, ignore the ‘slide to power off’ prompt. The phone will reboot with and apple logo. Then you see the logo, let go.

Of this doesn’t resolve your issue, does it happen with all texts or just iMessages?

Okay so what if I don’t have my watch on? Why would my text notifications still not show up or ding on my phone when my watch is on the charger? I just do not understand what is happening. This was not the case a week ago.

Did a hard restart on the phone.

Just had my daughter send texts with phone screen off and watch on - no text banner on phone, even though I have notifications to do it, and no noise.

No notification on watch either.

WHAT THE HECK?!?!

Same is happening for me.. NO notifications for texts. No vibration, no sound.. If I do not actively check my phone I will miss all text messages.

Does not happen with Signal or email. I do not have imessages open on macbook, and do not own apple watch. So stupid.

I’m still having the issue. It’s frustrating because I can have my phone in my hand, be in an app or reading something, and when I close it I’ll have 10 text messages. Very frustrating.

I've seen two instances where particular notifications or sounds for notifications went AWOL and the only fix was to restore the device as new and NOT restore from a backup. You may be at that point.

Oh Lord - I’m thinking it’ll never get fixed then. I’m not up for that anytime soon.

I know you've said you've looked at all the obvious settings, but I don't think it would hurt to post screen shots of mine just to be sure we're on the same page ("a picture is worth a 1000 words" and all). I'm not sure what version of iOS you're on and if these screens would look any different for you, but I'm on 16.1

Thank you! I checked everything. I DID have time sensitive notifications off - not sure when or why that happened. Everything else is the same with the exception of keyboard feedback, which I’m sure doesn’t affect anything, and my change with buttons thing for volume.

I had checked and corrected my time sensitive notifications after the previous post, but I haven’t had an opportunity to see if that solves the problem. I should sometime today though.

And my understanding is you're getting no notifications of any type (visual or audio) on your phone for incoming texts when the phone is locked, correct? Everything is normal when the phone is unlocked, correct? At least the actual texts are coming through when you open Messages. Does the Messages icon badge work (the red circle on the app's icon on the home screen that shows the number of new notifications)?
