its probably trying to open VMware since you have steam installed on the VMpartition. Download the steam osx from google location and make it the default.

Did you use VMware at one point and then delete it? Do you have a copy of Steam for PC somewhere on your hard drive that it's trying to open?

I started to have the same problem. I'm not in the beta and when I attempted to do the workaround it would load my Crossover copy of Steam rather than the Mac version. Oh well, only 3 days left...

screenshot of... not having vmware installed ?

(ok, stupid joke, but couldn't stop myself :p)

Actually it was very good, Yes I have Steam installed on a windows partition and I dont remember having VMware installed . My post's were just talking NOT asking for support / assistance on this.

Thanks but I'll wait for another 3 or more days and see where that leads.

Isn't this a form of piracy?

So use of the word "games" in conjunction with the word "download" immediately construe some type of piracy for you?

Perhaps you should look into exactly what everyone else is talking about before you go assuming we're trying to pirate something.

There is no way to "make it the default," unless I am missing something obvious...?

I do not have VMware installed..................

How about Crossover Games? also, sometimes just dragging an app to the trash doesn't clean all the app junk up. Using things like CleanUp is highly recommended. Better yet, if an app has its own uninstall (sometimes you need to re-mount the .dmg you used to drag-to-install the app with) to find the uninstaller.

Whats that supposed to mean?

He was asking if you are being a troll?

Steam coming to the Mac you don't need any Windows software to run it this includes VMWare, Crossover or Bootcamp. He assumed that you must know that Steam was a Mac application and are just "trolling" the thread to get some angry reactions.

To answer your question about Steam, the Mac Steam will run on OSX without any VMWare installs. You can read more on wiki page about steam or on their website.

Hey there Mr. Defensive, this is why I asked a question instead of jumping to conclusions. I've heard from another thread that everyone in the Mac Beta gets Portal: Mac for free, so if you weren't invited into the beta and are using a downloaded (which is pirated) beta then you are getting the game for free.

Your account has to be officially selected for the beta to get access to download portal for free. For instance I have the beta, not officially, I don't own Portal so I cannot download it.

I can however download games that I have bought for Windows for my Mac that have been ported over already.

Can you actually play the games once downloaded though?

Dont know yet. When i double clicked on it it said preparing to run instead of not enrolled, or this is not available on your platform. Ill know in 20min or so.

It would never let me download Killing Floor, it kept saying the servers were busy. So I just deleted the beta, the public release isn't too far away.

Patience, we're only a day away and there might not be TF2 available at launch. Valve said a new game for Mac every wednesday, which mean TF2 might not show up tomorrow.
