That's what I'm thinking. So really Evernote still has a huge advantage of being able to search for text in a photo or a non-OCR'd PDF.

I stopped using OCR in evernote as it was limited to working just within evernote.
You can buy FineReader from the apps store which is a solid OCR program with huge amounts of options. I believe it's the same software they use in snapscan printers etc.

I take my pics and just fine reader them when I get to my mac. Import them into Apple notes and there you go. They are readable outside of Evernote. It's one more little step but worth it to have OCR'd docs anywhere.

This is making it easy to switch from Evernote.

I do like the evernote web clipper especially on my iMac to clip entire pages for offline viewing.

I know that the new notes will save web pages as links that open in Safari. Does the new Notes actually save the page/data or just the link? In other words, can you view these web pages/links when offline after they are saved to Notes?

Could you tell me why everybody use Evernote then? What is the good functionality of Evernote?

Finereader is very accurate-- though if you choose to embed the text in a pdf, Finereader doesn't allow you to review and edit the detected text before embedding it in a PDF-- which means that it's a royal pain to correct the errors that do slip through.

Finereader Pro supports a good many additional languages over the Express version-- Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, a slew of computer languages. German Fraktur is still missing, and so is the option to train the engine on your own documents and typefaces. I'm not sure what the limitations of the Finereader for Snapscan version are. Also, if you buy it from stores other than Apple, it goes on sale periodically.
