I think this might be going a bit too far. iPhone Mirroring is a system app and cannot be uninstalled, and it's not in the App Store so you wouldn't be able to reinstall it anyway. macOS keeps its system data in a signed/sealed/read-only volume, and I believe it checks the integrity of it to make sure things are correct. I don't think any of those files would be the problem.

I just saw this thread, which gave me another clue for the final mystery I had.

~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.apple.UserNotifications/

I deleted that folder and rebooted. That made it forget which apps I had turned notifications off for, so this is where those particular settings are stored. Could try deleting that to see if it helps anything for you.

If it still doesn't, my thoughts would be to try the following (in no particular order):
  • If you're wanting to go nuclear and deleting stuff, I would stay within your home folder.
  • Sign out of iCloud, reboot, and sign back in (if you haven't already).
  • Create a new Mac user account and see if it works there. If it does, I think that further shows that something's wrong within your original home folder. Either keep digging, or switch to using a new user account.
Thanks for talking me off the cliff (though I guess that cliff had a huge tourist protection wall at the edge, haha!)

I tried the Group Containers folder deletion (interesting about it piling up junk) and that did nothing. And yes I already tried the sign in/sign out of iCloud.

BUT, yep, setting up an alternative account on my Mac sure as heck does cause notifications to work! Man...do I just...start anew? It's tempting actually but seems a bit daunting to customize everything all over. You're definitely on to something, and I suppose that's my nuclear option! Thanks as always!

Well, the same issue here..
I have two macbooks, both have iphone mirroring notifications enabled.

But only one machine has iphone notification settings. On the second one it is available only when searching directly "iphone notifica..." in the settings app.

Interesting. You may be the first I've run across with the exact same issue (on your second Mac).

Yea, and, of course, iphone notifications don't work on that second mac. They did (for some time), but then suddenly stopped. Also, it is an intel macbook.

On my new m-mac everything is ok.

Both macs had clean OS install without any migrations or backup restoring...

Bizarre, especially on a clean install. I have a long history of migration between machines over the years so I always assume it could have something to do with that.

Mine is an M4 Max so I don't think it has anything to do with the particular model/chip.

I've just about completed my transition to a new user setup on my Mac. It's been a bit of work but so is Spring cleaning, and just as worth it, it seems! Back in business with iPhone notifications. Bummer that we never figured out the bug, but I truly, TRULY, appreciate your guidance, iStorm, in getting things back to normal (and perhaps even for the better).

I think I'm closer to what @HouseofG and @Navvier are experiencing. Ever since my migration to an M4 mini (from an M1 mini where this was working perfectly) I haven't gotten these notifications to work, even after a logout/reboot/login of iCloud on both phone and Mac simultaneously. The setting never appears except in search, and never stays toggled on, which is probably the crux of the issue. I just read the last few days' of responses here and tried the nuking of `Placeholders-v2.noindex`. That helped a little. Still no persistently-enabled feature. But apps, and it seems all apps, are now showing with their toggled state they had on my M1. Although, it clearly hasn't been updated from my phone's current state as an app that I've since uninstalled still shows up. I have forgotten and re-paired my phone to the iPhone Mirroring app since the nuking. Some progress, and as I just did that maybe things will settle out in the coming hours, but not fully functional yet for me.

Yep, you're the closest to me that I've seen yet. Wish I could offer you more advice than to do what I'm doing (IF notifications are that important to you). It IS really nice to have Duo authorization requests coming up on my Mac again.

Oh geez, I screwed up my notifications again. I think it happened when I decided to change the name of my user folder. I had simply called the new user account "Test Account" when trying out a new account. I noticed that when I logged back in, that change triggered a bunch of reauthorization requests from apps. Probably should have left well enough alone but I can't have my user folder named Test Account!

Interestingly, the UDID folder deletion process didn't help. I had a blank slate in the iPhones notifications list after doing that. But at least they are repopulating as apps update themselves and I don't have it showing as iPhone notifications off (and literally gone from the notifications menu) when I restart settings. So, hopefully just a temporary setback!

Honestly they aren't important enough to worry that much about. I'm a web developer, so thus a programmer by trade, and so I guess part of me likes the curiosity of wanting to know what is wrong and try to help get it fixed. But it isn't worth rebuilding my user account over. I'll at least wait a few updates and see what happens. Now that a list of apps is showing and I'm pretty sure that it is primarily something about the setting not sticking I may someday write a feedback report to Apple about this.

But, you know @HouseofG, the issue we're both seeing, or maybe to some degree everyone in this thread is seeing, isn't specific to iPhone notifications. I just noticed that despite `Use iPhone widgets` being on in Desktop & Dock settings, none are appearing in the widget picker. I never had or wanted to use this feature, unlike notifications, but maybe there is something more "generic" about continuity of this sort between iOS and macOS that is broken for us? If nothing else, this whole issue shows that despite them being features marketed and activated together, clearly the base iPhone Mirroring and notification/widget mirroring are two entirely separate features.

Like you I've never tried or really wanted to use that feature, but, yes, it wouldn't surprise me if more than just the headline, notifications feature is getting borked.

I'm seeing a weird issue. In addition to some apps missing from the notifications list (sometimes fixed by offloading, sometimes not), I'm seeing apps that show "disabled on iPhone", but they are enabled on my iPhone.

As far as I can tell any app on my Phone that has notifications set to "Scheduled" is disabled from showing notifications on the Mac. Most don't even have the toggle to show on Mac, but even those that do are showing as disabled. If I toggle the apps to "immediate" they show as enabled on my Mac. If I toggle back to "scheduled" they show as disabled on the Mac.

Is this the same for everyone?

In case you are interested, today notifications started to work again. All i did - restarted machine after it crashed when usb-c dock was attached (sometimes this happens).

Wish it had been that easy for me! Thanks to iStorm, I've been all set with the new user account set up. It's been rock solid since doing that (other than right after my changing of the user folder name as noted above!).

Just for clarity, did you establish a new iCloud account? Or used the original?

As I expected the 15.3 update doesn't fix this for me. I've amended the feedback report to note this to Apple. I'm not missing this feature enough to completely rebuild my user account to attempt to fix.

I’m having the same issue, and it seems to be related to the migration tool.

- Phone mirroring works perfectly.
- I can’t find the iPhone options in the settings unless I specifically look for them.

I tried erasing my M4 Mac Mini and restoring from a Time Machine backup, but that didn’t help. I know a fresh install would probably fix it, but I’d rather not do that.

Those Duo notifications were good while they lasted, Apple seriously need to pull their head in.

I hope this helps someone else:

I couldn't figure out why I was not getting notifications from my iPhone. Under systems settings>notifications, there was no option to "Allow notifications from iPhone". So I did a search in system settings, found it somehow (I guess the bug is that it is just not appearing, and may be related to migrations as well). I toggled it where search found it, and now it shows under system settings>notifications.

Note: I haven't recieved a notification since doing this, so I am just hoping that it has solved the problem

Sorry to inform you that it is simply part of the same bug. Your hunting it down and turning it on is unfortunately meaningless if you have the same issue as others (including myself) noted above. You'll find that it simply turns itself off again, most likely OR it says it's on but does nothing.

OK. So I stumbled into a possible solution (at least for my two M4 Macbooks) when buying a new phone. It appears that if you "revoke access" and/or add a new iPhone (possibly re-add existing) that notifications will once again work.

This "fix" has stuck for several days on one Macbook, and for a couple of minutes so far on the other. 🤞

Note: it is still buggy (still lists my old iPhone in Desktop & Dock). I suspect the phone must need to be present to fully remove????? I will try later for this.

Definitely wasn't working for me with the same iPhone, but anything short of having to set up a new Mac user like I had to do is certainly worth trying!
