So with the "change with buttons" disabled, one can see that the indicator bar on the screen will increase & decrease with the external up & down buttons, yet in the settings menu, the external buttons have no effect on the sliding volume bar in settings.
Does The "change with buttons" feature disabled not affect the volume indicator on the screen, but prevents a volume change by the buttons?
Somehow, this makes no sense to me.

The pic I took was when I was lowering the volume with the side button which lowers the speaker volume on calls. It have no effect on the blue line in settings which is the volume level for the ringer and alerts. I have change with buttons disabled. The only volume that changes is the persons voice on the call. The vertical white line moves up and down with the side buttons and has no effect on the volume in settings so the blue horizontal line doesn't move

Side buttons control the top speaker volume (voices you hear on phone calls) and the one in settings is ringer/alert volume. That is if change with buttons is turned off
So then by enabling the "change with buttons, you can use the side buttons for both the top speaker AND the ringer/alert volume.

THANK YOU! It makes no sense to me, either. That’s why I started this whole thread of conversation. Nice to know I’m not alone in my confusion!

Tell you the truth I've never tried so not sure. I like to have them controlled separately.. I guess I can mess with it and report back if you'd like
Now I wonder under what circumstances a person would disable the "change with buttons" at all.

With the change with side buttons disabled the side buttons control a persons voice you hear through the earpiece during a phone call and the blue line in settings/sounds controls the volume of the ringer and the alerts.. That's what I mean when I say each volume
