I don't know what I think of the reception yet...it isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be...I lose reception in my house a bit and unfortunately at Bolling AFB where I work(indoors) mostly. But, I have been able to make calls in a Target in Burke where I couldn't with VZW....overall it has been much better than I expected, but I have noticed that even with 3 or 4 bars showing it can take a while to decide to put through a call. It is definitely not as good as VZW in my situation, but I think it is good enough for me, cause I love web browsing, the sms interface, visual voicemail so much that I am willing to give up some reception.....it has been pretty good outdoors in Springfield, Burke, Arlington and better than expected in some buildings.

I was at Bolling for a while. There is actually a nextel repeater there. It was by the BITS office. I dunno where they may have put a permenant tower at. So having any AT&T reception is freaking great. I seem to remember Blanchard barracks being the best test for a cell. Reception there was always a crapshot.

I know several folks who live in McLean and Alexandria (work in DC) and say they have no coverage / signal problem with AT&T (no iPhone). There is one person who lives in Chantilly and purchased an iPhone and says no issues (coming from T-mobile). Should satisfy my concerns, but hear comments like yours and read other comments 'bout spotty coverage, lost of signal, etc and wonder. Wonder also if it's only an iPhone issue?

Small world...am in Herndon. Thanks for the offer.

I don't have an iPhone yet, currently still have a Treo 650 but it is on AT&T.

I live in McLean and work in Alexandria, and also regularly drive around Vienna, Annandale, Tysons Corner and Arlington. Generally I get 4 to 5 bars pretty much everywhere.

My brother does have an iPhone, and lives near Clarendon and works in DC. He also seems to get very good coverage, although he does say that inside of his house he doesn't always get a very good signal.

I'm not running an iPhone, but AT&T is pretty acceptable in most of NoVA. Oddly, I get lousy/no reception in the middle of Burke (at home), but it's fine everywhere else.

I just switched from Verizon to ATT and after 5 years in the D.C. area with Verizon I was spoiled. I got reception everywhere I went. ATT is much different. The service can be very spotty and certain areas. If you value the coverage stay with Verizon if you want a really nice phone go with ATT.

Where are some of the spotty areas (besides underground - metro)?
