:( no updated shipping details yet. Hope they don't mean November 2010...

Guys, if they really meant November as in November 1, then I think when they announced the products they would've said 2-3 weeks shipping time. Since they did not, I'm just guessing it will be much later in November.

I cannot remember an Apple product that is released on the first few days of the month that they say it is shipping in. I would guess that you may be waiting till towards the end of the month until you receive them.

I just wish they'd tell us when in November it is going to ship.

I think this may be the case. Since Apple does not state publicly when OS upgrades are available in the future it may be keeping them from pinning down a date in November.

Doubt it, unless Apple is so far off the ball that the finalized drivers for the new card aren't ready yet. Apple has sold new machines with a updated version of OSX before the update was released into the masses. (see: MacBook Air). Don't see why this would be any different.

Gonna say it's shipping issues from AMD over the Radeon 4850. This is their biggest profile contract in awhile. Hope they don't blow it. We as consumers really need AMD to succeed in order to kick intel in the pants and not turn complacent again.

This could be similar to the MacBook Air 1.6 HDD model debacle. It was to ship in October, then November. I think I ended up getting it the week they were in stores in December. It was a PITA and I nearly spend wasted $2500 on the SSD model (wasted by way of saying the prices fell quite a bit 6 months later) but waiting paid off.

I would now never order a machine that Apple says will ship "sometime" in any month.

I think if Apple had some idea of when they could ship the Quads, they would say so. I think Apple does not know when they may ship them and November was an estimate which they felt was workable. It may be or may not be but a fixed date is an unknown not only to us but to Apple.

What's the bet that Apple will add new multi touch gestures for the magic mouse with the new update?

I really do hope so. It seems like it has to be coming. I mean, they put SOO MANY capacitors in there!!! The hardware definitely supports it.

I just wonder why they wouldn't have done that on initial release.

My reasoning that they didn't is because trying to find simple gestures that don't require moving your hand off the mouse is not a easy undertaking.

I still think it will go down as another damn Apple mouse (tragic mouse). It sounds more impressive in theory than use.

I posted in another thread about some features that would make it really great. So I won't go into detail here, but wouldn't a trackpad mode be nice? Toggle it in your mouse settings and the top of the mouse works like a MacBook Pro trackpad? One finger to move the mouse around, push down to click, all the same gestures. :D

I fail to see how the Magic mouse is "tragic," albeit that is a witty renaming.
I tried it in person and I was fairly impressed. Its not perfect, but its far from "tragic."

I can't imagine Apple being satisfied with suppliers telling them "oh well, we think it's gonna be somewhere in November, but we have no definitive date for ya". I'm sure they have a fixed date.

Maybe they just want to give themselves a bit of time in case there were problems with the first batches of the new iMacs, and bump up the delivery date a bit so they could work out some of the initial problems in the supply chain (if any). And, like people said when the iMacs were announced, they'd better use 'November' in general if the date is late November, because it's better marketing. They also lower expectations, which would be positive if they'll be shipping early instead of late November.

Or the hardware is already prepared to ship but they are working on new drivers for OSX. The current iMacs don't use any hardware that is totally new. The new Quads do (Yes, Mac Pro uses i7, but it's a different core).

Also, there are issues with the current 27" so hopefully they do get that sorted.

What makes you think it's a "supplier" problem other than rumors about the 4850?

It was kind of in reply to this and some posts above that, but I forgot to quote and was typing slowly, so there were other replies already :) . In any case, even if it is a supplier problem, I'm positive that Apple knows exactly when to expect the iMacs.

I mentioned this in an earlier post. I ordered my i5 by telephone on October 23. The salesperson told me the delay in shipping is caused by the ATI HD 4850. He seemed quite sure on this point. Whether this is true or not is anyone's guess.

This seems highly unlikely. Why would Apple start manufacturing computers for which they have no software? It doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm obviously not an expert, but I'd reckon that Apple develops the hardware and software concurrently.

The quad core iMacs have almost undoubtedly been in production for around a month now and I'd be seriously surprised if they're shipping with anything other than 10.6.1.
