I seriously doubt they'll add it to the Mac Pro. I've heard that this card is extremely loud and very power hungry. Apple likes their computers to be silent.

I just purchased one from new egg, the 8800GTX that im gonna throw in my mac pro. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow and if not monday. I'll let you know how it works out.

It should fit ok. I have a 7900GTX in it now. The new card is an inch and a half longer then the 7900 so it should be fine. I'll let ya know.
As of this second, it doesnt look like it is going to ship today so may have to wait till monday.

You didn't read a single review, did you? It's actually fairly quiet and the power consumption for the GTX is ~7W more than the x1950XTX. GTS power consumption is actually below x1900XT/x1950XTX. It doesn't have any of image quality problems of its predecessor (7xxx) either and it rips. I sure hope they start selling it soon because I'd get one (well, I'm frugal, I'd go for the GTS).

I'll stick with the X1900XT for a year or so before i upgrade. Besides Vista & DX 10 is still not out, might be better to wait till they iron out the first generation glitches.

But no doubt it's a mighty card. I wonder what ATI are going to do ?

yea the two extra power cables required may be hard to find in a mac pro.

BFG is significantly better. can't remember which review i saw it in but you will find it if you look up 8800 on google

and seems like theres 2 power connectors there

i know one is made for the vid cards dunno about the other one?

Guys, the 8800 you buy now would only work in Windows, not OS X. You do realize that? NVidia/Apple have to supply a Mac firmware for the card for it to work on OS X.

More accurately, NVIDIA needs to supply the firmware, and Apple needs to supply the drivers.

I'm hoping as PCs move to EFI and (hopefully) Apple continues to gain marketshare, the first won't be necessary, and the second will be taken care of by NVIDIA/ATI.

They already have a unified shader architecture graphic chip. It's in the Xbox360

Early next year we should see the R600, which is their first unified shader graphic chip entry for the personal computer.

Rumoured specifications are supposed to be:

R600
80nm
700Mhz-800Mhz
64 unified ALUs
32 ROPs
32 TMUs
512-bit memory bus, 512-bit Ringbus **
512mb gddr4 @ 2.0-2.4 Ghz

Right now all cards are built by Asus, so the only thing that could differentiate them would be the cooler. Either the reference designed cooler or some 3rd party.

yeap i plan to have it with dual inputs
all vga for windows and all dvi for osx my lcds can take both so all i do to is switch inputs

but yea now is jsut a matter to trying to figure out how to power up the 8800 GTX

Thank You, you are so kind. I actually did read some reviews and a lot of people were saying that the fan on the card is loud. It might be a certain manufacturer, but in any case, that is what they said. The GTS is still power hungry. Even though it might be on par with other cards, it still requires 2 power connections that the mac pro doesn't have. Better make sure you get a splitter.

Cool. Does that mean the 360's gpu will have some DX10 hardware accelerated features then.

I wonder when the midgrade and low end DX10 cards will show up? I was going to get a 7600GT but now Iam thinking of just waiting for dx10 version of the 7600GT One thing though is these things are power hogs. the 8800 is using 177 watts! I can hear the power companys just a yelling at those gamers.

Well, the Titan release might make it so the 8800 works in OS X as well. I've not honestly heard of anyone actually trying Titan in their Mac Pro, though, so I could easily be wrong.
