Hi, I recently bought a Zotac AMP! 980 ti. I am loving it, it's great for games and work alike! I cannot seem to get any sound out of it and I was wondering if you guys could give me any help. I want to be able to output 5.1 surround sound to my AV receiver (something I have done with my macbook for years). It works under windows so hopefully it can be done under OSX too

Search HDMIAudio, AFAIK, even though you are not using HDMI but DP, it still require this 3rd party driver to get the sound via GPU. However, don't expect just install this driver and then good to go, you may have to try many times.

Makes sense as I've never been able to get mine to switch off no matter what torture test I throw its way using a 6 + 6to8 adapter config, but it will still display even if you forget to plug them in. Would it be reasonable to assume that Titan X and 980Ti only have 8-pin connectors for the overclocking crowd, otherwise they'd be fine if they were manufactured as 6x6 pin cards?

Interestingly, Nvidia's manual says you just need 6x6 pins but everywhere else insists you need 6x8.

Has there ever been any final answer to this? I also noticed the disconnect with the manual saying 2x 6pin aux power supplies are needed for the GTX 980 ti and many people saying more power is needed because of the 8pin socket on the GPU.

It is odd, and all the posts of people repeating that more power is needed seems basically to be just adding up the wattage of the supplies (75+75+150).

Are there people out there successfully using the 980 ti using only the PCIE 6 pin supplies on the Mac Pro logic board?

I am. Working great so far after 3 weeks. Even with heavy loaded games on W10 with the card at 80% TDP, 75 °C and 50% fan speed with games at extreme or ultra settings on 2560x1440 with Vsync at 60 Hz.

I had a crash once (power off of the mac) and it may be related to powerconsumption. But at the moment of the crash, the card was idle, on windows desktop since a long time. I launched a game and ... power off.

Strange but no problem after reboot ... so I'm not sure i will not take some more juice from sata, but i'm keeping with the 2x6 pin of the motherborad untill next strange crash.
