Thank you. Weird, then, to ask for a ban on items not even imported. Or maybe they are in some grey market.

Apologies, I'm on an iPad mini. From Reuters:

"They're using our technology for free in their devices today and they're shipping an enormous number of devices," Nvidia Chief Executive Jen-Hsun Huang said on a conference call.

Qualcomm did not say it is suing Imagination or ARM but it did say it is asking the U.S. International Trade Commission to prevent shipments of Samsung devices containing ARM's Mali or Imagination's PowerVR graphics architectures, as well as Qualcomm's graphics technology.

Graphics technology from Imagination is also used in Apple Inc's iPhones. Asked whether Nvidia plans to sue Apple since it uses Imagination's technology, Huang declined to comment.

"Today we're focused on Samsung and Qualcomm, and we continue to have productive conversations with a lot of other companies out there," he said.

As I said, corporation power games.... with any luck it'll be thrown out of court.

You never know with the ITC. Their entire existence is predicated on protecting US patents via import bans.

Apple once lost a case at the ITC partly because their defense claim of patent exhaustion... the concept that they shouldn't have to pay royalties to a patent holder because the chipmaker had already paid them... only applies if the chips were bought in the USA.

Of course, to avoid paying US taxes, Apple buys chips using overseas offices. So the US exhaustion defense was not available to them.

Something like that could apply in this case as well, if Samsung sources Qualcomm chips from outside the USA.

Say hello to the new patent troll! Nvidia can't compete and now is suing for what they call a GPU!

Just so you all know Samsung is using reference arm Mali GPUs and snapdragon socs with adreno GPUs and is just being targeted because they are the biggest market leader.

PS Samsung makes the a8 with the power vr so apple is next up after nvidia tries to sue Samsung.

GPU should not be allowed to be patented

Yep, kind of what I figured. You knock out the biggest guy on the yard and everyone else falls in line. If I was Samsung I wouldn't pay Nvidia a dime if I already paid Qualcomm to license their GPUs and from what I'm hearing they don't plan on it either. Weak move by Nvidia if you ask me.
