Yes......put it on top of the SSD before placing the lid.
Thanks. As it wasn't mentioned in the assembly instructions I thought it was just an adhesive mounting pad, but then saw it was described in list of parts as Thermal pad. I have put it in now.

I forgot to mention that it (Thermal Pad) might have been protected with a thin bit of clear plastic. You need to remove that first :)

Thanks! I have been known to leave protective films on sometimes, but didn't this time....as well to mention.

I think the Orico Thunderbolt is at fault in combination with an Apple computer. .
I have used the ORICO Thunderbolt 3 Certified M.2 NVMe SSD Aluminium Enclosure for M2 PCIe M-Key 2280 SSD - and I used it to boot my iMac Fusion drive 2017 (Monterey). Why - The 2017 has a Fusion drive that went broke with the new operating system (thanks Apple) so I bought this Thunderbolt dock.
  • The thunderbolt drive hangs up all the time, the iMac reboots at night often. That is not very convenient. This is independent of the NVME SSD. I used a WD 850 and an other one from Reletech. The latter works seamlessly in a normal NVME case and the Reletech Pcie*3 drive is now my boot drive in a normal 20G drive.

There is not a general problem with Orico and Apple Computers.

I have the same model Orico TB3 enclosure and it works well with my M1 MBA and M1 MBP. I did check bootability when I first got it over a year ago, but not how I normally use it. I have a 4TB Sabrent Rocket NVMe inside.
