Hey guys,

really need a bit of help, I had read most of the post on the forum and searching around the internet and wouldn't find a solution

I got a cMP with a PCIe Nvme x8 adapter which use a PLX8724 and for the samsung evo plus 970 2tb from amazon which product date is 2020/10/29

What I did was

0. I plugged the NVME and the adapter on the cMP but no luck its not working, it showed as audio device in system report but when I tried to locate it at the NVMExpress it was not detected. I tried to put it in slot 2 and 3 but same result, then I tried to troubleshoot it

1. I bought a nvme enclosure and initialised the NVME in window and it showed up as an external drive in window
2. I plugged the NVME with the enclosure in cMP it also showed up as an external drive in Mojave then I format it into exFat
3. I put the NVME in the adapter, the cMP found the PCIe adapte
4. Opened disk utility -> show all device, its not detected as well

is there anything that I would possibility do?

Thanks in advance

The audio device is your graphic card, not the NVMe. It's very clear that the audio device is at slot 1, same as your Vega64.

Anyway, from your description, very likely your PCIe card is not compatible on the cMP.

damn the seller said its fully compatible with mac

A google search for "PLX8724 nvme" finds several sources, none of which mention MacOS compatibility.
It's just a PCIe switch chip. No reason it shouldn't work in macOS.
My Mac mini 2018 has Thunderbolt devices with 8724 and 8732.
My Mac Pro 2008 has a device with a 8747 connected.
The Mac Pro 2019 uses the 8796 internally for its slots (except slot 1 and slot 3) and Thunderbolt controllers.

would that be the case that cMP would only work with the 8747 ?

It’s not necessary the PCIe switch model’s issue. Can be just the card itself not compatible (e.g. firmware issue)

Just like the IO Crest card. The newer card has the same PCIe switch as the old card, but seems having compatible issue on the cMP, which the old cards don’t.

Some XFX cards also has the same GPU as other graphic cards, but has compatibility issue on cMP.

Since you tried the card in few slots, re-installed a few times already. So, the chance of having “poor contact” is relatively low. That’s why I believe it’s compatibility issue.

Anyway, which card you are trying right now? And model number? Photos?

Wow, this seems a el cheapo Chinese clone of a SSD7101A-1 mixed with some SSD7104 touches.

It's not just the layout or the fan, even the way the signals are routed on the PCB seems the exactly same way HighPoint does it, but without compensation.

This card has management like Highpoint ones?

Did you checked with a recent PC that has NVMe support? Some older PC's, like some Lenovo and Dell IvyBridge/Broadwell weirdly don't support NVMe at all, even having two x16 electrically compatible slots.

Maybe it's DOA, since it's not showing the PCIe switch with System Report ioreg.

System Report doesn't show PCIe switches. Do you mean ioreg?
