Whats even more adorable is the $85 for 1GB of BYOD plan from Rogers.
Hopefully this year the carriers once again go on a poaching spree and create a bunch of good loyalty plans to keep the subscribers they have. (that's how I have my $55/6GB plan on Fido).
Keep your ears/eyes open and watch for deals on red flags and iphoneincanada.

Man was I tempted to buy the new upcoming iPhone X...
Good luck to everyone and may the odds ever be in your favour!
Just wanted to clarify a couple of points with your original post.
The only reason that there's Qualcomm modems in the current batch of iPhones at all is it makes more sense to get the CDMA capable modems from Qualcomm as any competitors have to pay them licensing anyways (Qualcomm's modems are always the least expensive as they own the CDMA protocol).
Not so for LTE (they have a portion of the patents in our current wireless technologies...so a share of the royalties).
If Apple is actually throttling the Qualcomm modems or not is actually a point of conjecture in the ongoing patent pissing match between these two companies. I'm not certain anyone's proven it yet.
Your post also made it sound like someone had to get a new iPhone to use the new cellular Apple Watch with...not the case at all - all recent iPhones (including my 6s) support VoLTE, so I really don't see any dependency there.
You DO however need a carrier that supports eSIM provisioning (which Rogers/Fido are not yet there). On that aspect, I'm stuck without until next year.
