That's just disgusting. I'm getting 6GB right now for 70 dollars a month. Like yeah, that's better than most of Canada (due to being in Manitoba) but still terrible compared to like anywhere else in the modern world. Every time somebody in the US whinges about having to pay 35 dollars for unlimited data, but oh no they throttle at 15gb... part of my soul is lost due to excessive triggering

There is no $35/month unlimited data in the US. The US is very expensive too, relative to the rest of the world, but sounds that Canada is a lot worse. The best budget deals in the US for unlimited are $50/month plus, and that's not from the big carriers.

Whats even more adorable is the $85 for 1GB of BYOD plan from Rogers.
Hopefully this year the carriers once again go on a poaching spree and create a bunch of good loyalty plans to keep the subscribers they have. (that's how I have my $55/6GB plan on Fido).

Keep your ears/eyes open and watch for deals on red flags and iphoneincanada.

Man was I tempted to buy the new upcoming iPhone X...

Good luck to everyone and may the odds ever be in your favour!
Just wanted to clarify a couple of points with your original post. :) The only reason that there's Qualcomm modems in the current batch of iPhones at all is it makes more sense to get the CDMA capable modems from Qualcomm as any competitors have to pay them licensing anyways (Qualcomm's modems are always the least expensive as they own the CDMA protocol).
Not so for LTE (they have a portion of the patents in our current wireless technologies...so a share of the royalties).

If Apple is actually throttling the Qualcomm modems or not is actually a point of conjecture in the ongoing patent pissing match between these two companies. I'm not certain anyone's proven it yet.

Your post also made it sound like someone had to get a new iPhone to use the new cellular Apple Watch with...not the case at all - all recent iPhones (including my 6s) support VoLTE, so I really don't see any dependency there.

You DO however need a carrier that supports eSIM provisioning (which Rogers/Fido are not yet there). On that aspect, I'm stuck without until next year. :(

Sounds like it got more expensive recently, eh? But at least you guys have proper carrier choice instead of the Canadian usual "terrible," "worse," and "how is this company not bankrupt." It at least seems like there are legit arguments to be had between AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Not sure if Sprint is still a big deal or not.

It hasn't gotten more expensive. Its been trending down, but only really because T-Mobile has been putting pressure on AT&T and Verizon. I think the norm for unlimited from a major carrier is more like $70/month. I'm paying about $225/month for a family plan with 5 devices on AT&T, sharing about 30GB, which is a "special" plan, and supposedly has a 23% corp discount on the main plan. For me to change us to unlimited would take it up by about $30/month. There are no phone payment plans or contracts in that number... its just service. And as a customer, I also have gigabit fiber internet and Uverse TV through AT&T, so I should be getting any discounts available for loyal customers.

Having all the options that are out there, and going with something you want / like is always the best. Who cares what others think, if it works for you.

Enjoy your Note, solid device for sure!

I pay $41 for 6GB(QC) BYOB with koodo, but most people I know pay full price, over 100$ a month just to have an iPhone. I just use whatever free phone koodo gives me.
