So just a quick update .. Office 365 is now native ... and what a difference no lag in opening excels or powerpoints ... no splash screen nothing just instant also reduced CPU usage and Memory Pressure, tested it against my Windows 10 maschine same file (thinkpad 7th gen i7 16/512) guess who wins every time ...... now we just need them to update teams .... YMMV

P.S. hope this is ok to post here as only Forum that covers all devices

I wonder how much MS has reused code from the iOS versions. This may explain the reportedly good performance of Office on the M1.

P.S., I think there was already a thread about Office on the M1 somewhere.

... are the m1- and Intel-versions functionally totally equivalent? Or does the m1-version only feature iPad-functionality? - How can the m1-version be loaded? Is a m1-version of OneDrive already available?

They are the exact same version, just recompiled. You get it by changing your Office Updater to "Fast Insider" to get the Universal builds.

And they have been out for 2 weeks now or so.

... thanks for the information! Do you know if the OneDrive App is already available as m1-version as well?

I have word and excel 365 installed along with office updater and don't see any options to select fast insider. I only have current channel, current channel (preview) and beta.

What is the version number you have in your native 365?

Same. And there is no native 365 update, unless its that beta.

This is the version info for the Native betas. I found to get these to install using the beta channel on the Microsoft AutoUpdate I had to have Mac OS X 11.1 beta installed.

Also these run amazing, instant load when opened.

Inside one of the Office applications go to Help > check for updates. Click Advanced and then select beta channel and check for updates.
I checked both Word and Excel under help and don't have the check for updates option so I installed the MS auto update app and selected beta channels and it found no updates.

Actually it’s a universal binary so same functionality .. also tested by forcing it to use the rostta2 It’s still slower. This is on a M1 pro 8/512 for reference YMMV

Did that. Says I'm up to date.

Richard did you buy Microsoft 365 from the App Store or from Microsoft. If you bought from the Apple App Store you will not be able to update to the beta version as all the updates happen via Apple's update mechanism and they don't allow Beta versions.

Ah that makes sense. I got it from the App Store.
