I have a 14" MacBookPro - 16GB memory. Launching Word from cold takes less than two seconds.

However, I suspect that the time depends also on what else was using memory when Word is launched. It might take longer to free up the required memory than it does to actually launch Word. But I had already used Word and simply closed then quit.

Launching Excel (which had not been used since the last restart of the machine) took towards 7 seconds.

Each of them is using about 130 MB according to Activity Monitor a few minutes after launch - no documents open.
thanks for the answers! I am guessing you might be right with the other apps using memory (I have always open Brave with roughly 30-40 tabs , outlook, signal, wahtsapp, spotify) so the laptop probably needs to reshuffle some stuff to be able to open these office apps.

once the apps are open then it is almost instant even on my M1 MBA, my main issue is when they are started from cold (+ that's why I am comparing to friends M1 MBP 32GB where this was pretty much instant too)...

bottom line to me seems to be the badnwidth itself on MBP probably doesn't do that much, simply having 16GB instead of the 8GB would probably do more... well let's see what M2 air brings :)

I'm not obsessed with Activity Monitor but the odd time I have looked, my typical Memory Used is about 12 GB.

I do think my mini, which only has 8GB, occasionally seems to need to make space.
