Microsoft PR to Macintouch.com on Office:mac

Office:mac will be updated after the Windows version. This was made perfectly clear in a message from Microsoft PR representative Tammy Hovey reprinted in its entirety:

[Tammy Hovey, Microsoft PR] I spotted a post to your site the other day and wanted to follow up with some information. Mac BU partners closely with the Windows Office team to ensure seamless cross-platform compatibility, and, as outlined last summer, the Mac BU will support the new file formats.

The Microsoft Office Open XML file format is based on an open standard with a royalty-free license that is broadly accessible to any technology provider. With the release of Office 2007, the Mac BU will provide converters to ensure cross-platform compatibility until the next version of Office for Mac leverages the new file formats.

Sorry for this, because it goes against my desire for "positive" speech - WTF is "ribbons"? :)

I've lost track of if you're joking or not... so I'll just answer. ;)

The next Office, at least on Windows, has a supposedly unifying "Ribbon" of formatting and action commands that replaces the toolbars. The ribbon has columns which encapsulate related commands. It's actually a little bit like taking the palette from the Mac version and turning it sideways and putting it on the top of the screen. And, erm, hitting it with the ugly stick.

Thanks, I was joking in some sort of strange way. :) Haven't bothered to look at the features of Office 2007 yet.

Not sure if this is an improvement or not. Happy with my current product.
