should the iPod / iPhone be connected via USB during the SSH?

It doesn't "have" to be, but it's recommended. Doing so will disable the phone from going into sleep mode. Sleep mode will usually disconnect any active sessions. :)

Fair enough. Of course I'm also a strong proponent of giving them sudo and rm and letting natural selection cull the Hurd... *

* Yes, I know that that wasn't strictly relevant, but it was the only *nix pun I could think of.

LOL. I just spit out my coffee. :)

Forgive another newbie question....after I SSH, do I go back to BossPrefs and turn it off? Didn't know if that was a battery drainer to keep it on - or if it is only on during usage. Still don't know which apps run in the background and which go off when not in use. Just got my iPhone last week, and so far I've upgraded to 2.2.1 and managed to JB it! I feel so smart. LOL. My husband is the computer geek in the household, but thanks to you guys, I'm pimping out my new gadget nicely. :)

Anyway, SSH - on or off after use? Thanks,

Jen

Off. It's not a battery drainer, but a security measure. I still recommend changing the root password, in case you leave it on and wind up hopping on the same network as someone with less than average scruples. :)

Turning it off would save SOME battery, like possibly one percent the whole day.

Its not important, I leave mine on.
