When will we see the official iPad reviews from tech media writers like Walt Mossberg, David Pogue, etc...? With less than 2 weeks until launch I would expect them any day now.

Given how apple have been about the ipad I'd say no actually I would bet my life on not till launch day at the earliest. And that's if they have managed to actually que and purchase one.

I kind of doubt official reviews until launch day, considering that from what I heard the only way a 3rd party can even use an iPad is to have it locked to a table in a blacked out room. Not exactly a conducive environment for reviewing how well an iPad will work in normal situations.

Engadget will get first hands on for sure, so just a few days after release i would guess.

I'd also say launch day for the major reviewers (Pogue, Walt, Baig, maybe Cnet too). Embargo will probably expire at 12:00 am PST on April 3, so they'll be online before people can get their hands on iPads in the stores.

Why do you think that? In the past the New York Times and Washington Post tech writers have had Apple products for days ahead of the official public release and their reviews have been published before launch.

I could be wrong but i just don't think apple will let them talk about into it in stores.

Apple will encourage them to talk about it. It will help drive people to the stores and will result in more sales. We can argue about the journalistic integrity of Mossberg and Pogue, but these are basically free advertisements in the NYT and WSJ.

I don't think they will because apple has not talked much about the ipad since the keynote. I think they are good off their pre- order sales. Now after the 3rd is when we will see the real markting for the ipad.

Not sure what Apple's silence has to to with professional reviews. Ever since the iPod new major Apple products always get the full USAToday/NYT/WSJ treatment before launch. Apple has give these 3 the early scoop before other reviewers. It's protocol and you want to keep Baig/Pogue/Mossberg happy.

I'm really hoping there are some early reviews prior to the launch.

It won't change how I feel about the device, I just want new bits of info, etc.

I'm going to honestly guess before the launch. Those guys reviewed the iPhone before anyone could buy one and that was probably more protected than any other device Apple has made in the last decade.

Apple knows that people are waiting for these reviews and my guess is these guys are playing with them now and we'll see in depth reviews of them soon.

I suspect April 1st we will see all sorts of "April fools" spoofs about it releasing early, having a camera, flash etc...

The actual reviews probably will happen though, as stated, a day or two ahead of the official launch. Mossburg and Pogue have done this with the iPhone in the past and don't see that changing now.

It's my understanding that selected reviewers are getting iPads this week. They will be writing their reviews next week but due to non disclosure agreements they won't be able to release those reviews until launch day. Expect to see those reviews pretty quickly though on that day. I'm jones'in for the first disassembly photos and I expect them by that Sat night or Sunday for sure.
;)

What kind of reviews are people expecting? I'm new to Apple products and following their release so I'm not sure what to expect. I think I'm going to buy one provided it doesn't get too much of a slating. (no joke intended :D)

I think people just want re-assurance that the $500+ they plan on spending is going to be a good investment. Pretty much everyone who has reserved or pre-order the iPad is doing so without ever having used an iPad before.
