Hi guys.. new here, not really new to macs.. My first was an LCII with like a 40MB hard drive and 4 meg of ram, then I moved to a powermac 6100 with a 486 card in it (I felt like i could rule the world with it) then a G3 notebook, then unfortunately macless for a few years until last weekend when I got my wife a new white 2.0 macbook.. I liked it soooo much I sold my Lenovo t-60 (which is a great machine that I cannot say enough good about) and am making a deal for another macbook from a member here :) Just thought I would say high and all that jazz...

Hi everybody!:)

I just joined last night. I have an iBook G4 14", I got it this past Christmas. I got it used from apple.com I've been really happy with it so far. It's my first Apple, but I'd been wanting to get an Apple for a while. For the past 3 or 4 years, my family has had Linux. Ever since we got Linux, I haven't liked Windows. I joined so I can learn more about Apples since I don't really know that much about them.

I really like animals, especially dogs and ducks. I'm in my freshman year of college.

joined a few weeks ago and am very impressed at the friendliness of this site, as I am on 7 other boards; sometimes people can be very rude, but I have seen a near total absence of that here.

not a professional in AV, although that was my training 20+ years ago but I do want to use video occasionally for professional purposes e.g. putting together a DVD (see my post elsewhere).

Hi, name is Christian. I joined last month, forgot to post in here. I was unsure if I wanted to commit to purchase a brand new iMac, so I picked up 2 old G4s and took the best parts from each to make one Mac. So far I'm loving it. I'm waiting to see what the new generation of iMacs will be, and will more than likely pull the trigger then on a new one.

Also, I don't mean to brag but I am a certified ninja.

...and so this is the standard 'about me'.

i do way too much stuff in school--I totally love singing and acting and making mistakes and having fun. my taste in music and other stuff is different compared to everyone else, but it doesn't matter a whole lot--everyone has a totally fabulous unique style and you like what you like, right? i work at feed and read (hell yeah) and try to fit friends, work, school, and tons of other crap into my life... it's all a ton of fun. i like photography, i suck at the piano, and i love meeting new people. if i don't reply to a comment, i might just need a reminder. i promise. my family always spends a few weeks in the summer at the jersey shore, it's totally awesome because we always stay at the same old hotel and do the same stuff... that kinda stuff makes you feel better, you know?

but about moi? hmm, where do i start? i guess i'm a pretty busy guy in school, i do all honors and AP, key club, show choir, debate, national history day, the musicals, honor guard, regular chorus, student forum, and plenty of other stuff...so i don't have much spare time. but when i do have time, i LOVE hanging out with my friends, going to the movies, going to coldstone (!!!), playing piano, photography, and just partyin'...hahaha. i'm gay, but i'm def. not femme. and i don't define myself as "gay", it's just one of the bunch of parts that make up my personality. i'm usually calm and collected, but other times i'm just totally spontaneous and crazy. people who know me well also mention that i'm open minded, tolerant, and willing to try new things and meet new people. there's nothing i get really upset about and i don't think i've ever been seriously mad... i'm actually a pretty mellow guy. so try me sometime. =]

Recently joined about a couple days ago, it's been great. Although I do not own a Mac myself.. I am sure planning on it. Just want to read up and learn about it more through this forum and possibly make a purchase soon or this summer. Cleveland native, Chicago newbie. My forum name is actually based on a full name that I use for rpg video games or what not; "Mordekai Baine" with "dekai b" strategically implemented in it. Hope to get to know a lot of you!

How ya doin How ya doin,

I was about to plunk down some serious coin for the 8 core when I thought I'd have a look around to see if there might be some issues I should be aware of. Found this site and the dialog surrounding the s.s. chipset. Very helpful.

Nice to see all the Mac smartologists hanging around here. -U

Hi there,
I'm Kiang, I'm Belgian and I'm waiting to buy my first Mac in September, So I guess it couldn't hurt to get a bit deeper in the mac-world by browsing some forums :)
Right now I'm using an XP system (and it sucks :p ), but I tried to use Linux a while ago. I guess Linux is nice, but you really have to do alot of work before you can personalize/ properly useyour system, so the next thing I will be using, is a Mac!
I really hope it is at least half as great as it seems in Steve's keynote presentations :p

greetz,
Kiang

Hey all..

I took the plunge in December, registered in February, here we are in April and happy to be here. Just barely fall into the parameters.

MacBook Pro - I lud it. Wont be going back.

I'm also a bit of an Audio nut. Look forward to learning more about apple lossless, and I'm sure I can add to any music server or high end audio discussions. My main 2 channel rig:

Hello everyone, I am Cheesecake and I must say I can be very tasty if cooked and prepared just right. I go good with wine, I must say.

Anyways, I just recently purchased and am now the owner of a MacBook Pro 15". As a kid my elementary schools used to have what we called the 'Mac Lab', which was almost always up and everybody wanted to get in there to use it. This carried on through most of my life, where I always found myself wondering about getting a Mac because I was tired of the problems being a PC user gave me. I finally went for it, deciding that I had been tired of being stuck tethered to my computer chair if I wanted to do something on my computer.

I decided to go pro for several reasons.

1.) I like to work in all forms of multimedia. Audio, Video, and Photo mainly. I wanted the extra juice the Pro could offer so that I would be able to get more done, faster. So far, it's much faster than my PC. Comparison wise, i'll say that rendering a piece of HD footage on my Pro using Final Cut Express HD took around a minute, while the same footage took nearly 5 minutes using Sony Vegas on my desktop. Sadly, I paid $599 for Vegas while I paid only $99 for Final Cut. I decided to run it on my Windows partition via bootcamp, and it went from a 5 minute render to a 3 minute render. Still not as fast. I was very impressed.

2.) I wanted to have a bit more muscle for gaming on the go. I only play maybe 2 games online, but I wanted them to not look like the crap my home PC pushes out. I get the looks (60 frames a second flat on max settings in Counter-Strike Source) but performance isn't always the greatest. For instance, I have extreme slowdown problems when running Phantasy Star Universe and I have Refresh rate problems when playing Silent Hill 3. It's enough to detract from my experience quite a bit, considering that on my PC I don't have these problems.

3.) I liked the 15" screen better than the 13". The extra screen space is wonderful in both the Mac OS X environment and the Windows environment. It's not quite as 'portable', but I see the tradeoff as worth it.

Anyways, that's why i'm here saying hello to you fine folks.

EDIT: For some strange reason I am unable to create threads anywhere on any forum. What up with that?

Hiya. Discovered this thread because TheAnswer linked to it from another, so thought I'd write and say hullo.

I bought a Mac Pro and switched to the Mac last September after over 20 years working with other operating systems (DOS, Win 3.1-XP, X Window, HP/UX, etc.). I joined MacRumors earlier this month.

Hey, I'm Matt (hence my forum name ^_^)

I've been using P.C's (and Windows) for my entire life, and have pretty much been brought up on them. In the U.K Mac's are even rarer than over there, from what I know.

I already made a post beforehand (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/299385/) but I'm going to be switching to a Mac once my exams are over.

I'm choosing a Macbook because of a/ costs and b/ size. I'm going to University in a few months, and so a small, laptop that doesn't break down or need maintaining is a must for me. I like Vista, but it's just not the direction that needs to be taken, and Microsoft is now finding that having to be compatible with every single piece of hardware is proving to be a disadvantage when it comes to coding their OS's.

Anyway, I look forward to being part of a vibrant and artistic community, where we can have honest debates and acknowledge faults in OS X, and recognize positive points in Windows and Linux :)

Peace out.

I wonder who reads these...

I joined after years of browsing (but only occassionally) partially to procrastinate writing my senior thesis for my last year as an undergraduate but also because I'm in the market to buy a new Mac. I don't usually join online communities, but I am a Mac Addict so I'm making an exception.

For me waiting (for Santa Rosa, Leopard, oder was auch immer) is a must, considering the fact that I haven't picked a job yet and moving out is more important than buying a new computer since my powerbook is still kicking.

I bought my first computer at 15, a Dell Latitude - which eventually ended up in 2 pieces (I dropped it). I worked as a web designer so I bought a powerbook the summer before I started college. I've worked with Macs since I was 15 and refuse to go back, although my future job might require a PC....
