Hi, I'm new here. A bit overdue as I've been using Macs for while now and should have been asking all my questions here (as opposed to not at all). Just posted over in one of the general forums re moving country. Look forward to some fruitful conversations.

This will be a bit of a test... Another of these threads started with good intentions... but was soon taken over by regulars.

if you just joined MacRumors, reply and introduce yourself.

This is only for new Macrumors users... only users who registered within two months of the current date may reply...

All other users posts will be deleted. (moderators, please enforce this). This will be for myself included... only comments by truely "new" users will be allowed in this thread.

Discuss away...

(this could fail miserably if no one replies :) )

I've been a Mac owner since 2006 and a user since the late 1980s. I'm on my second Mac Pro, this one is a mid-2012. It's a 3.2 Ghz Quad Core Xenon processor, 32 Gb ram, 2 OWC SSD drives (250Gb for the OS/Applications; 500Gb for Customer files and 2 1TB spinning drives for backup). I have the default graphics card, ATI Radeon HD 5770.

I use it for graphic design and digital printing. Don't tell anyone but I also own 5 Windows 10 systems.

I joined MacRumors to see if I can fix a problem. Since an update to High Sierra in January my system has been pretty slow. Example, upon reboot it takes 20 seconds to display the password field and after entering the password it takes 45 seconds to display my desktop. Everything I do involves a spinning wheel. There are pauses with everything, then the system will "catch up." But, for no particular reason, periodically it will run normally for about 3 hours then gradually become very slow again.

I've reinstalled the OS - not a clean install but just a reinstall; no help. I have nothing running at Startup and have disabled all my background applications like Creative Cloud but I'm at a loss. I think I have tried every troubleshooting trick in the book. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello All-

I first signed up with the Apple Army in 2005 with a G5, then a 24” Intel a couple of years later, then a 17” MBP (which I’m sad to say will have to be recycled soon), and more recently, a 15” MBP.
I am in the process of ordering a 16” MBP with a 4tb internal SSD drive in the next week or so.

In that time I have/had an iPod 5th geni, and several 160 gb 6ths, two of which I still use, one of which was upgraded to a 256 flash memory via a brick & mortar electronics repair shop (that one unfortunately was constantly skipping tracks upon playback since updated, and taking forever to finish syncing in iTunes), so I’m returning the warrantied Samsung flash card for a replacement one.

I have an iPhone 5, 7, and will purchase an XS this week.

I have logged about four hours in the ‘lurking’ mode over the last couple of years, and decided to finally create an account.
I do have a few questions I’d like to ask, once I get the feel of the forum and where to post them.

Wish I had more Apple-knowledge/help to offer to the site, other than some slightly outdated general iTunes and iPod-related stuff, so I’ll chime in from time to time in the General Discussions-type threads in the meantime, instead.

G'day everyone

Just want to say short greetings from down under land. I was lurker for a couple of months but decided to join this wonderful Mac community! This site helped me with my purchase of new MBP13 & I want to contribute a little bit to help others out in the future.

I had a iPhone 5, 6, 6S Plus, 7, & the 8 Plus as my current daily driver. I am content with my 8 Plus & still runs like new except for battery health at 90%. I hope to purchase the upcoming iPhone 12 because I want to go back to a small compact phone. My all time favourite design was the iPhone 5, 5S.

Hope to see you all around & enjoy your Mac hardware/software!

Hello all,

I'm Dominic, a 28-year old creative digital agency owner based in Sydney - from England!

I've been a huge fan of MacRumours over the years, they've helped me keep informed and make some great purchasing decisions - plus I'm a big tech enthusiast and Apple fanboy so I've always been coming back to the website.

I've never really stumbled upon the forums until very recently when I purchased my new MBP 16 maxed-out with 5600M graphics - it's a beast!

I'll be posting much more frequently and I hope to cross paths with you all in the future.

All the best!

Hello. Living with a host family as I finish college and start looking for a career in the USA. Heard about this forum from my hosts, since they know I love the Apple products. I see many opinions here, which is very enlightening!

I am a newbie to this forum with a 2009 Macbook Pro (5.4). Last week I replaced the Mojave MacOS with Dosdude1's Catalina Patcher MacOS. I had been reading this forum to get educated. As a result, the transition went smoothly without any hiccup. I do have a Bootcamp Windows running in another partition on the ssd, installed with an earlier El Capitan OS. My question is whether my Bootcamp partition is linked with the new Catalina Patcher OS or not.

Hi Howaya howaya howaya. Just posted an inquiry about parental control, but I probably should have checked to see if something similar has been answered .

Hello! Been reading the main site for ages, over the years this has seriously remained one of the best tech blogs out there so props to the staff.

New to the forum since I often find myself posting techie rants on unrelated communities so figured it made sense to just join an actual tech community. I'm mostly an Apple guy since I got my first iBook at 9 and if it's not a Mac it's running Linux. I've already seen plenty of interesting and civil low level discussions about tech on here from people who know their stuff so this seems like the place for me. Linux forums may be full of professional techies but civil they are not, so much infighting about distros and whatnot, let alone if the topic of other OS's comes up. This place literally has an Android forum and a forum for Windows and Linux! As a multi-platform user I'm happy to see it.

I work for one of the world's biggest tech companies, am in my 20's, live in the UK, and technology has been my passion for as long as I can remember. Now it's also my profession and I honestly couldn't be happier. What is it they say? Do what you love and you never work a day in your life...

Happy to be on the forum, so far the community here has been very pleasant :)
