So heres the situation. I was all set to buy a MBP today (the 2.2ghz model). So I call up the apple store and of course..."we're sold out."

So now I have a dilemma. Should I wait for them to restock (who knows how long that could take)? Should I just pony up the extra $500 (even though I don't really want to) and get the 2.4ghz? Or should I buy from Amazon...get $3.99 overnight shipping, save from no tax, but lose out on the $200 discount and the free Ipod Nano?

Oh the agony...can anyone help with suggestions?

just order the 2.2Ghz model

i did that and it just got shipped (ordered on July 11th)
i know it's a long wait, but you save 200$ + get a free iPod Nano !!!

Yeah I could do that but I've been waiting for this moment for the past two months.

I am in the "I want it NOW" phase :D

Kind if stupid but if you can't wait then get the 2.4, but I'd wait. I've been waiting for more than a year to get a macbook pro and just ordered an now have to wait another three weeks. But its all worth it;)

believe me,
i've been in that phase for almost a year now, from the first time i got to work with a macbook pro (in september 06)
i just bought a new Dell laptop then, so i couldn't afford one then
now i just sold my Dell laptop and got a macbook pro

anyway, just wait for 2 weeks, and you'll be happy with the extra money & the ipod nano

I've been waiting for about 8 months to order my MBP. I ordered last week and am enduring the wait because i wanted the 7200 HDD, i could have walked in the store and gotten the stock 2.2.

Just wait the 3 weeks to get it. You get the $200 rebate as well. Also, pay the $18 for the 2 day shipping.

i live in belgium and over here we can only benefit from the edu discount
we don't get a free iPod Nano

I ordered my laptop early May, and 4 weeks later, the new Santa Rosa MBPs came out. I was pretty upset but figured this ish is all the same. Don't let that happen to you my dears!

Has anyone actually gotten the money back from the free ipod nano rebate yet? I sent it in a while ago, and haven't.

i think it says it will take 6-8 weeks. I don't think i've ever gotten a rebate back sooner than 4 weeks.

I can't stand mail-in rebates. Honestly, i've actually been too lazy to send them in. And I know that's the whole reason why they're around... but it's just such a pain...

Or should I buy from Amazon...
Amazon sucks ass... I try to refrain from any purchase through them... With all their 3rd party sellers you never know who you are buying from and what the customer service is like, inventories are always inaccurate, information is always lacking. For instance I just searched for Macbook Pro on there, saw the SR one listed as $1949, then once I click on it, the price is $2395 or some ****... ugh I really hate Amazon!

I completely disagree with you. Amazon is my favorite online store and, in fact, I find it much easier to deal with them than the apple stores or any other large online store. It's VERY EASY to know who you're buying from: if it says "ships from and sold by Amazon" it means that you're buying from amazon. If not, you're not. I don't know how they could make it more straight-forward than that. The alternative stores are in a box to the right very visible for the customer.

As I said, Amazon has the best customer service I've had online and I would recommend them without any hesitation at all. Read my thread "I love amazon.com" for my recent experience and also similar experiences from others on the forum.

To the OP: Amazon is running a$150 rebate now.Their rebates are submitted online and I've never had an issue with them after they started the online submission system. That would mean that the final cost of your low end macbook pro would $1850 shipped. Pretty great, if you ask me. I just bought one from them and it's perfect.

I just mailed my rebate in around the 12th or so and the site is already claiming that it's been processed and the check has been mailed. I was pretty impressed with that speed... I got my MBP back in the middle of June but got my dad a Video iPod for his birthday which was the 10th so I couldn't mail in the rebate until he opened it up (didn't want to give him a butchered box). I'm very impressed with the speed PLUS the ability to track it online (although the only status I saw was that it wasn't received yet, and then that it was processed and complete).

Well I went ahead and ordered from Amazon with 1 day shipping for 3.99

The only reason I wanted the Ipod was so I could resell it (already have one) and thus lower the price a little. Pretty much all that would do however is negate the tax I would of paid at the store.

Buying it from Amazon ended up costing me $25 more in the long run...but it was worth it to have it this week. I will however buy the Applecare from the Apple store with the student discount.:D

Same thing here - I went through the same thing last year with my Macbook, but ended up ordering it from Amazon as well - the hassle of reselling the iPod plus rebates is not worth the extra $20 or so in savings, not to mention I'll more than make that up in freelance work since I get my MBP tomorrow or Wednesday instead of 3-4 weeks from Apple.

I had the same problem friend. I called the apple store every morning when they first opened, and after about 10 tries, I finially got the only model of the one I wanted that they had in stock. Call everyday, you'll get one soon.

I understand that, but most things sold on there are not "ships from and sold by Amazon". Then you don't know who you are dealing with. I HATE amazon... cluttered layout/interface as well...

Well, we'll just have to disagree then. I mainly buy expensive items there and 99% of the time I buy directly from amazon rather than third party sellers. I've been completely satisfied for many years now.

Well I agree that buying straight from amazon is a lot better. I once had a horrible experience buying from a 3rd party there so I've vowed never again...

ok sorry to hijack your thread!
