Well it happened again, My airpods and case ended up doing a full cycle in the washing machine. The case appears dead but the airpods still work! Just picked up a replacement case from Apple and the pods charged up no problem and are working fine!
Lol, I just did the same thing. Round two killed the case.

I came home from working out and removed my AirPods, placing them in the case and shoved the case into my sweat pants pocket. Shortly afterwards I took the sweaty clothes off and placed them in the washer machine and started the machine! I realized I washed the AirPods when I opened the machine to place the clothes in the dryer. There my beautiful white case sat. It appears no water got on the inside with the AirPods; as a matter of fact, the AirPods works perfectly including pairing with iPhone, ATV, and AW3. However, the case is not working! I am so pissed at myself!

When will the new case that supports wireless be available. I could wait if it is soon. I'm pretty sure a case by itself is not available. I will have to spend another $159!! Ugh!!!

Ok I was correct. The AirPods are fine and work great but the case didn't. After all this time I finally purchased new pods and case when I saw them for only $129 including tax and delivery on eBay from a reputable seller. They arrived today and I tested the old pods with the new case and bingo, the old pods charged and are working perfectly. I tried to charge the new pods in the old case but no luck. So now I am the proud owner of two sets of pods and one case. Cool!! I wonder what happens if I get confused and put an an old pod in one ear and a new pod in the other? I have to test and see.

For those that are wondering who is this eBay seller, here is the link to the seller. I discovered the seller when the AirPods were listed on a blog about bargains for the day. The sale has ended but who knows, maybe they will go on sale again.

Maybe you used a different washing powder to the first time?

Check the washing instructions next time.

(LOL).

It sounds wierd, but I just found my AirPods in the washing machin in the middle of the cycle while soaking, I took the right one out and it didn’t work but couldn’t find the left one so I let the wash run. After it spun and drained the water, I took it out and it worked fine, I realized that maybe the spin fixed it so I PUT THE BROKEN ONE IN A SALAD SPINNER and it worked perfectly

They will continue to work but not as good, I did the same thing. Bought a new case as well but they go out every now and again.

they work fine as far as listening to them, but if I was close to my phone it would always think the AirPods were in my ears

Well I let them sit for three or four days, I plug them in and got no light on the case, and when I tried the AirPods they didn’t connect or show up. This morning I drove to the Apple Store before trying them again, when the Apple tech looked at them they worked fine. So they didn’t replace them, but they appear to work fine. I told the employee what happened, he said there’s really nothing inside them that gets ruined when they get wet, and that they just tend to work when they dry out. He did say he wouldn’t make any notes about it so if they stop working in the future I still have the manufacturer warranty anyway. So good news is they work fine, bad news is I didn’t test it myself so I drove all the way to the Apple Store for nothing.
Drove for nothing? They worked in front of the employee yet you expect them to replace them because of something you did to them? That makes no sense. Its not Apples fault you washed them.

So I washed my AirPods (in the case) yesterday. Left them in a zip-up pocket and threw the whole hoodie in the washer after the gym. Not only that, but I didn't realize where they were until halfway through the dryer cycle.
To my amazement - they work perfectly fine. I imagine they were rocked pretty hard through all the washer cycles and then the dryer and they for sure were fully submerged in water for 20+ minutes. The pocket they were in is definitely not waterproof.
I am so confused. What sorcery is this ?
