Ok...now what?

It's entirely possible that sales simply tanked. A poll here in the Mac Pro forum showed that 50% of Mac Pro users/owners here felt the nMP was a failure.

Back when Apple was a computer company, they would drop the terrible new design and come up with something that people actually could get some use out of. Now, I'm afraid they simply see this failure as justification to stop making any new desktop computers.

Still enjoying my 6,1 Mac Pro I got over a year ago. Now with a new release of FCP X 10.3 its doing better than ever. Rarely touch my 2009 Mac Pro anymore.

For last several years ( 5-7 ) Apple hasn't made any major new introductions in November. Even if they were not shipping until November/December they announced something at end of October.

The November date, while not completely impossible, is most likely someone grasping at straws because it was relatively clear over the last several weeks that there was nothing coming in October.

The comment is more so about a running moan and groan campaign that poster has been running about claims of "next month" , "just wait until xxxx event a couple months down the road' comments that keep popping up.

Apple has got to do something with the iMac ( and Mini). If there is a "Mac desktop day" in Q1 '17 that's a far more likely window for a Mac Pro roll out ( if there is one. ).

You could always move to Xamarin or Qt5 on a windows or linux box to develop your apps

A criminal is someone who's been convicted of a crime, can you point to Apple suing or otherwise charging someone (hint: no)? Also, I believe it's a civil offense so therefore even if you lost you wouldn't be a criminal. And finally, just because it's illegal doesn't mean it's wrong morally or otherwise. This is pretty darn melodramatic to say "You can't do a hackintosh because THE LAWWWWWW!" Yeah, I can't rip DVDs /Blurays I own onto my HTPC either, try and prove damages in a civil court with that one, time warner!

If you know you are going to go that route, just build the PC and move onto Windows. It's inevitable and you'll save a load of time if you just skip straight to it.

Well I'm not waiting, just thought I'd mention the Macworld story since it was going around since before this latest event. For the record, I can certainly remember times when Mac Pros and other Apple machines got updated without any fanfare or special events, so it could very well be simple update on the website.

Personally I'm planning out a switch to Linux. It'll probably be February, but I'll need to finish researching hardware.

What law would you break? Not respecting an EULA isn't a criminal offense. Hell, they aren't even enforcable in many countries.

Apple doesn't do shows for processor upgrades, so optimist that I am, I am hopeful that Apple releases new desktops next months with processor and GPU upgrades for Christmas, which I believe they've done in the past. Past due does not begin to describe how due they are for upgrading their desktops.

There is no "law" involved here. There is only a contractual agreement between producer and user (EULA). You won't get arrested for breaking the EULA. It's possible (a very remote possibility, to be sure) that you could be sued by Apple. To be honest, they've turned into such ********s I wouldn't discount the possibility.

But let's not pretend building a hackintosh is the same in terms of criminality as building a meth lab.

I want to imagine a bunch of turtleneck-wearing Apple cops tossing flashbangs into a residence, busting down their doors, arresting people and hauling them out of their houses. And just when they're about to take the bad guy to downtown to the Apple jail to get interrogated by The Geniuses, one of them says "And one more thing...." -- then he throws an incendiary grenade in the house and sets it ablaze. Then they get a call about a perpetrator using rounded corners on rectangular electronic devices and one of them remarks grimly "Mother of God...." before they peel out to right more wrongs with the world.

Why do you consider it a moan and groan campaign? When someone asks "Now what?" and the advice is to "Wait until x event" when that advice has been given over and over again I think it's reasonable to point out. It does two things:

1. Shows no one on this forum knows what Apple is going to do.
2. Alerts the person asking the question that there is nothing unique about "x event".

I don't see that as moaning and groaning but rather providing helpful advice.

There are certainly reasons to prefer an OS over another, but I get the impression that most users who default to the "ugh, Windows" mindset have either never used it and/or it's just their pro-Apple reflex showing.

There are things I like and dislike about both Windows and OSX, but 9 times out of 10, once I'm busy working in an actual program itself, the OS kind of fades to the background.

In my view this Mac 'family photo' from the keynote yesterday really says it all. Apple doesn't care about the Mac mini or the Mac Pro. This shouldn't really come as a surprise considering both are barely a footnote in Apple's quarterly earnings. I believe Apple effectively considers both to be end of life at this point.

Yeah, it's fine really I guess.
But there are still all just lots of little quirks and non-sequiturs and annoyances that Apple users would be baffled by, and as a former Mac user I still come into contact with every now and then....
I mean just right now in front of me; the scaling between different resolution displays still isn't working 100% properly like it does in MacOS - I have the 5k display of the iMac and a 1k secondary display next to it, and still occasionally things in the 1k display randomly appear absolutely enormous because they're still being scaled up for the hi-res monitor... it's just all the little imperfections like that which you just sort of end up living with that a Mac user pretty much never runs into. I could write a laundry list of little annoyances that you have to put up with day in, day out as a Windows user.

There are certainly reasons to prefer an OS over another, but I get the impression that most users who default to the "ugh, Windows" mindset have either never used it and/or it's just their pro-Apple reflex showing.

For sure, there are people have just have a kind of sickening brand loyalty that will cloud impartial judgment. But, I've been in Windows for over a year at this point and I'll tell you right now that if I had a choice and if it were practical and I could run all the software I want under it, I'd take MacOS over Windows any day. Just because there are a lot of sad, biased people doesn't mean one of these things is not better thought out and designed than the other. The best you can say for Windows is that it doesn't feel decades behind MacOS now. Just a couple years maybe.

I'm with you right here. When people (like me, in this post) prattle on and on about the OS - we seem to be forgetting that the OS is just a corridor to get us into the offices or studios that our suite of applications provide. They're not that big a deal. We could all do with reminding ourselves of that from time to time.

I use Win10 all day every day, and have been for a year. I would still take Mavericks over Win10 if I could.

In truth, I run both. I've got W10 on a virtual machine (using Parallels). Been getting familiar with it for the past year or so, in anticipation of a probable move away from Apple.

A big concern with moving to Windows is maintaining access to my older, Mac-based files. That could be tricky when a client wants work done to update an old project. So keeping my cMP running well and using Parallels makes a lot of sense for the next couple years. After that, I'll be pretty close to retirement, so I figure I might be able to limp along for the remainder.
