Finally, I've discovered how to oc ati 2600 in al 24 imac in Windows XP!
Basically, run AMD GPU Clock Tool and you have to change a core clock every 7 MHz and memory clock every 9MHz for example:
The default clock for the memory is 684MHz, you can set:
693MHz
702MHz
711MHz
720MHz ...

:)

nice nice baby!!! thanks so much for that. you are using standard bootcamp1.1 drivers i presume?? thankyou now gaming will fly eheheh

No, you don't have to, but I would like to have the newest version :)
At the moment 615/774 is stable for me, testing is still in progress...

Hi,

Long time Mac user, first time "Overclocker" here.

I'm getting a new 24" iMac 2.8GHz in the new year, mainly for Photoshop and stuff, but I would like to play some games on it (Gears of War, UT3, CoD4, the Witcher, Crysis, etc) and I was wondering if there is a step-by-step tutorial regarding overclocking the Radeon 2600 on here somewhere (I did do a search, a quick one I may add, and didn't really find anything.)?

Also, does overclocking have the potential to stuff up the Mac / graphics card? I would assume that overclocking would produce more heat.

Thanks for your help and have a good christmas.

Ok, this all works great, combine the new video drivers, overclock the gpu (I run around 6x multiples of 7 and 9 as stated above... and your Imac is ready for gaming...... right... well kinda

I did all the above and quite happily played UT3 and COD4 with frame rates around 50 for both, this was until the Imac started freezing. Turns out that the CPU, GPU and disk drives were starting to cook. The drivers for the fans in the Imac for both bootcamp and osx are pretty lame IMO, they rarely change speed no matter what the demand.

The fix was to use smcfancontrol, run this in OSX, my settings for gaming are for the ODD fan at 1/4, the HDD fan at 1/2 and the CPU fan at 3/4 (on the sliders). Then I restart into bootcamp and the fans keep up their pace and you can game without fear of destroying your mac.

Imac, 2.8 4gb ram

Ok, so whenever I restart my computer, the GPU will reclock to the defaults? And do you recommend I do this? Is it safe? And are there any tools that work under XP Pro that will allow me to make the fans go faster?

hey man,

im not sure if you will need to hard restart to reset clocks, a soft restart will probably do it but.

yea pretty safe, no other way to do it.

there are a few tools to make it run cooler such as "speed fan".

Yeah, thats what I meant, soft reset. And every time i go play a game i bump up the speeds again?

Not needed, I use atitool to lower the clock to default values when I am finished gaming. Have been able to overclock my 2600hd card to 762/1035 running stable. It increases my 3dmark score from 3845 to 4948, about 30% extra speed in crysis :D

Have had the card up around 790/1060 but it starts getting unstable when it heats up.

That's pretty good! I can't get much over 720/850 on mine.

Guess I am lucky, maybe a change in the latest versions of the "old" imac, got mine 2 months ago. I am using catalyst 8.4 and atitool 0.27 beta3 to overclock the card on vista ultimate. If you are using vista, have you remembered to change powerplan to high performance? Not sure if it makes much difference on the imac but it is build on laptop components.

A nice thing about Vista is that it usually only restarts the ati driver if you increase the clock to much. It wont even disturb the game you are playing when it reloads the drivers other than the lower performance as the driver is reset on default clock speed.
