okay, so who is 100% satisfied with their new 24" iMac?

I'm on roughly day four or five with my new 24" iMac and it seems like I learn to like it more and more as each day passes. The thing that probably impresses me the most is how easy "most" things are to do. Plus the overall speed of the machine never ceases to amaze me either.

So I see quite a few 24" iMac complainers and I can't help but to wonder if those people either 1) don't have one and are just talking out of their butts or 2) have or had one and for whatever reason just didn't like it no matter how good it would have been.

That being that, I wonder how many people like me are there in this forum who are 100% satisfied with their latest iMac purchase?

I am very happy with my new iMac. I have not had a lot of time to really use but so far it's great.

I am 100% happy with my new 24" imac.

glossy screen-nonissue in my office environment

speed- amazing! upgraded from a dual 2.0 G5 (power supply and logic board went down)

noise-amazingly quiet . barely hear the drive spinning at all.

graphics card- I am more on the video side of things and from what I can tell it handles core image really well. I ran a max/msp/jitter patch on it and a quadcore macpro. I actually got higher frame rates on iMac. This was using openGL for drawing videoplanes.

This machine is really a pleasure to use. super quick and quiet with a firewire 800 port for additional storage. A real winner in my opinion.

can't wait to really put it through a gig.

I hesitate to write this given the remarkably poor quality from Apple of late, but I have been very pleased with my 2.8 24" iMac so far.

It is beautiful and fast as sin. Runs silent.

Sure, I wish there was less reflection and a better GPU, but it really is an impressive computer.

Count me as one very pleased iMac purchaser. (now if Apple could just get there act together on the quality of their portable line...)

My 2.8 ghz extreme/750 GB is heading back. I really really wanted to like the new imac. In fact, I like the keyboard, the fact that the computer was so silent, and the speed of the computer. I hate to say it, but as much as I tried, I could not get past the screen. I tried with my blinds closed, low lights, the "shades" program to dim the screen, etc. At the end of the day I received major headaches everyday from using the machine.

As an alternative, I am going to get the 17" MBP 2.4 ghz with the High Res screen (matte).

I know it is a personal issue for all of us. However, I can not justify paying this much for a computer and not fully enjoying it. I hope all of you have a better experience. On a good note, there should eventually be a great refurbished model available for those of you that can handle the screen.

Just my impression from almost a week of use.

the 17" MBP runs $2700? not even in a million for me. that's just insane.

I'm very happy in spite of a few quality problems (dead pixels), and the frustration of using the slot load superdrive (man that thing is fussy).

Aside from that I love it, great screen (i understand the brightness issue, mine is on min for desk work), great keyboard, looks great.

The 2.8GHz is genuinely fast you can have handbrake backing up a DVD at 35fps (processor on max in isat pro) and yet still use front row, mail, safari etc, without hardly any slow down. I came from "lamp" G4 so step up is noticeable.

I think with the new imac for those on this forum (and other mac followers) the expectation was set very high and perfection was the standard. Once you lower that slightly (or use a PC for a few hours) you realise what a great machine the new imac is.

I absolutely love mine. Super fast, beautiful screen, surprisingly good speakers, awesome keyboard and generally silent except........

My only concern is a noise I hear occasionally for a split second, it sounds like a cracking or popping type sound. It happens very infrequently and seems to be when I first turn it on, after a few hours it seems to stop happening. My guess is that as the iMac heats up plastic parts on the interior expand, I am sure everything fits really tight inside there.

Does anyone else hear this noise coming from their iMac or know what this might be?

I think it goes deeper than that. Some people would simply have different expectations, based on their previous Mac usage (if any) and their own 'quality control' for consumer equipment at this price.

In other words, it would be easy for a non-Mac user to be impressed by a Mac (who wouldn't?) but a serious Mac user may be disappointed by one aspect or another (but again, from what I've read so far this is a rarity).

One thing I may be disappointed with could be quality control, such as a some posts referring to noisy internal fans, display artifacts or stuck or dead pixels - but again this has been rare (and given the scale of production this is inevitable - and so far there have been no problems with having these units replaced).

As with most things, you're only likely to hear from people who have had issues or require help. I'm sure most people are 100% satisfied and are too busy having fun with their new iMac and iLife08!

Yeh the mouse is crap, forgot that, mines still in the packet, I use another mouse, which actually speed things up as it slides faster.

I had a 20" and returned twice for dead pixels finally taking a 24". I hate to admit but People who posted about the screen differences between the 20 and 24 were correct. This 24 is very very nice

Mine is out on the FedEx truck for delivery right now. Regarding the keyboard and mouse - Much as I might want to use the new keyboard, I have special keyboard needs because I sometimes work in Hebrew. I bought a decent Logitech international wireless keyboard and mouse in 2005. The keyboard includes both English and Hebrew letters on the keys and has come in handy on more than one occasion. The only real downside to them is they are wireless and not bluetooth so that will be one more wire hanging off the back of my mac. On the other hand, it's one wire but I won't be limited in terms of where I can put the keyboard because the wire is not connected to it.
Sorry to ramble, I'm just a bit excited about the new thing getting here.

I cancelled my 20'' online order, and picked up a 24" from the apple store...

...and I must say this is the best decision I've made all summer. I am still amazed at how huge this thing is. It is so beatuiful, so much more cleaner than my desktop pc. I moved the modem and the router to another room since it has built in wireless, and my desk has never looked cleaner. I love how quiet it is, and I can only imagine how many people are gonna say "what the hell is that thing? its huge!!"

The "hugeness" is perfect for my bedroom. I'm using it to replace a mini + a 32" TV (that was wayyyyy to big for the room).

EyeTV + over-the-air HD channels look AWESOME on it, either full-screen or windowed!

It hasn't been 24 hrs. since I picked her up. I'm 100% Satisfied and I'm glad I didn't hold it off until Leopard.

Never did like Apple's Mice, my little brother has the Mighty Mouse along with the BT Apple Keyboard and the 17" 2.0GHz iMac.

Wow - a thread where people like their new computers. What will happen next.

A day and so far happy enough. Some early thoughts

• Screen glare not a problem yet in my home.
• New design is very nice, and fits better in the home than the bright white thing (cool as it was). just wondering who the bright guy was that included white power cords for my nice new black computer...
• New keyboard is way cool. Actually typing better, although the low profile still seems a but funny to my fingers. Disappointed the cord is so short thought - will have to buy a USP extension cord now... (I haven't used a Mac mouse in years)
• I'm a member of the 'stripped the screw to the memory panel' club. See the thread in the forums
• this 24" imac is way lighter than my old 20" g5. but...
• I may have to do something about the base. It slides around the desk with almost no effort. The old imac you had to grip hard to rotate. I'm worried I'll knock it and it will just slide off the table.
• Still doing the software update dance. A few widgets needed replacement. Disappointed the latest version of the logitec mouse control panel doesn't work Maybe time for a new mouse? Was happy Databackup 3 works well - Nice to have new back SW and new processor and backups still run smoothly
• Impressed everything came to the new machine without much problem. only 6 hours, and everything seems to have survived.
• This is my first intel machine, so faster processor and 4GB of ram makes this a very snappy machine, although I haven't pounded on the processor yet. Maybe this weekend. I have to say having my itunes library load in 2 seconds rather than 20 is nice.
• Speakers don't sound bad, but still like the monitors I bought for computer sound better. If I'm not 100% on mac it's because there's no setting that says "Send annoying alert beeps to the Mac speakers and not the really good speakers I'm trying to listen to music with"
• Is it me or is isight worthless to people with glasses? I have no eyes - they've been replaced with two bright screen reflections

We'll have to see what the next few days bring. (Now if you want comments on apple software, well, that's probably a bit less than 100%.

Ditto. I sold my 46" DLP that was in my bedroom to my brother yesterday also. It was too big, and I never used it anyway. I figured I could just use the 24" to watch movies on, tested it out with the good, bad, ugly and it looked beautiful. The apple remote and front row work very well.
