I felt the same way originally, but I think they'll want to move to an X design quickly. I can't see them selling an flagship iPad with a home button in September. I could be wrong of course. Maybe March 2019 worst case.
Agreed - I'd venture to guess we will see FaceID introduced to the Pro line, along with an incremental CPU bump this year.

FaceID does not work in landscape. At least in this version of FaceID. Would a software update allow FaceID to work in landscape or would that be strictly hardware? Can't see FaceID only working in portrait mode on an iPad Pro 12.9".

Agreed. The idea of having to hold up an iPad in a specific orientation towards your face to unlock it doesn't really work - especially for big 12.9" models. I could actually see a separate, 9.7" FaceID iPad model (basically an upgraded version of the current "iPad"). FaceID could come to the iPad Pro eventually, but it has to work in landscape mode.

Totally agree. It's annoying now to think about how close my phone has to be when FaceID inevitably fails for me at times. Can't imagine having to do that with an iPad Pro 12.9 if apple also does not improve the range of FaceID.

I would be very surprised to see OLED come about on the iPads this year. I agree that FaceID will most likely get implemented before OLED, but I’m not sure if it will appear later this year either. FaceID absolutely has to work at greater angles and in landscape mode on the iPad, but then again, Apple does what it wants. I need to see more rumors.

Good point.

Two sensors? Software fix? The rumor mill from reputable sources has been pretty strong on FaceID heading to the iPad, going back to October’17.

But how is Apple gonna make Face Id work in Landscape mode on the iPads ?

Couple of guys are uploading videos on YouTube saying that Apple can simply not use an OLED Display in an iPad because an OLED Display this size i.e. 10.5" & 12.9" would be too expensive, but don't you guys think just like Apple introduced an OLED Display in the iPhone X with an increased Price they can very well do that same for an OLED iPad Pro. I do not think higher Manufacturing cost is going to stop Apple from bringing the OLED Display in the iPad because at the end of the day Apple can just increase the iPad Prices and get the Cost+Profit recovered from the customer isn't it guys ? what do you guys think ? I do not think high manufacturing cost is a problem for Apple, I guess availability, making it is a problem right now for Apple! If I read the situation correctly !

People have no history perspective. If DELL could partner with LG in 2014 to release a 10.5” OLED Tablet In 2015 which I owned. And cost $499 ($399 On Sale).
Now you want to tell me Apple can’t
Heck, the reason Apple switched iPad size to 10.5” out of no where, was because they will likely be partnering with LG to make similar 10.5” OLED displays for then like they did with DELL

The only way to keep offering a Pro IPad is to include PRO Features.
Which OLED offers.
- faster response times
- better color accuracy and color range
- can be made thinner
They have to go OLED.
Bonus Factoid Apple is partnering with LG Chem for better Lithium batteries

LG gets to make the OLED Display on the iPads and the batteries. And maybe OLED displays on MacBook Pros.

Man this thing is getting really really mysterious and to the edge new and new news coming in of Apple sourcing more and more suppliers for its 3D technology used in Face Id is making me get off the seat right on the edge !! The Face Id iPad Pro would be a thing to behold ! I just can't stop imagining how much awestruck I would be with that gizmo !!
