Whilst I agree that it's probably sensible to wait for the "dust to settle" - many people have confirmed that it works fine, so going ahead if you're confident you know what to do should be fine.

If you've got all the files, and an already jailbroken iPhone - the process should only take about 3 or 4 mins.

If you've got to do the jailbreak, then add another hour onto that.

I agree although with it being fresh reports of anything wrong may get hidden in all the omg it worked thread/posts. If it were me, i'd wait for a couple of days to get a clearer consensus of the results (I don't have to unlock as I can just jailbreak)

An hour to jailbreak? It doesn't take long that long. If you haven't done it before I can see it taking about 30 minutes at most if you follow the guide.

I didn't mean that the jailbreak takes an hour.... but if you've never done it, and have to read up it can take a while! And adding media back to the iPhone takes AGES an' all!

Should have been more specific!

As mentioned, if you are not familiar with terminal, it might be best to wait a few days more. Someone is sure to package it up and make it more user friendly.

For step-by-step guides for most things iPhone hacking related, especially if you are starting, I'd recommend modmyifone. They have big pictures for each step (no matter how small), nice instructions and usually have a guide up within a day or two of something happening.

This is awesome news. I wonder when the first unlocked 16GB iPhones will go on sale in Bangkok? My roommate will be very happy as he will be inheriting my 8GB phone when I gt back from holiday.

So, one quick question, you don't need to have the phone activated in order to jailbreak it do you?

Don't hate me I've never done it before..

PS thanks for the modmyifone link i think that will help out a lot.

Nope... no need to activate.

Hats off to Geohot for proving he is the master of iPhone unlocking!

This is a good day, many people with the 4.6 bootloader have been waiting for me to unlock their phones, i guess the time came.:D

Confirmed - This works!!!!

Folks, pleased to confirm that this works!

Congrats and thanks to Geo_Hot. Installed via installer: Now have UK 4.6 iphone 1.12 soft upgraded to 1.13 running Vodaphone with calls in / out with no problems.

If I do this software unlock on my 1.1.3 iPhone, will it still act normal with the original iPhone/AT&T SIM in it? I want to unlock the phone to sell it (and finance my upgrade to the 16GB iPhone) but if I cant sell it to someone I want to know that it'll work just fine (with the benefit of accepting other SIMs)

I dont know if people here realize that this software unlock can now be performed directly from the Installer.app

you have to add:

http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo

as an installer source, then refresh the list. then you can download a couple small files and run a small command from the iPhone to unlock. Piece of cake and personally confirmed on a 1.1.2 OTB iPhone. No downgrading to 1.0.2 necessary.

Here is the guide I used, from the modmyifone forums
http://www.modmyifone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30346&page=6

"Use a better method, all you need is your beloved 1.1.2 OTB or 1.1.3 OTB or any 1.1.2 and any 1.1.3 as well as a good WiFi connection to Install Geohots Gunlock Script. No need to connect to PC or Mac. From Installer, go to Sources, Edit, Add http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo and refresh. Go to Install, choose Recent category, find Geohots Gunlock Script. Install BSD Subsystems and Terminal VT100.

Go to Settings, set Airplane mode.

Go to Terminal VT100 if you already in 1.1.2 or 1.1.3.

Type the following (only 2 lines, each end with return or enter)

cd /usr/bin
geounlock

Wait for about 2 minutes, enjoy your 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 unlock.

In case you are in doubt, read More Info before you install Geohots Gunlock Script.

Mine is iPhone 8GB from week 51, running 1.1.2 OTB, jailbroken and using x-SIM in tandem with Xplor SIM card from Indonesia, need only 2 minutes to run Geohots Gunlock Script. Now no more x-SIM to be used. Thanks George and BigBoss that put the script in the repository.

I am now figuring on how to get into 1.1.3...."

Does the GeoHot unlock offer any advantage for those who already have a 1.1.2 unlocked phone? From what I have read, the baseband remains 04.02.13_G, so no findme in googlemaps anyway.

One of my friends' iPhone is OTB 1.1.2. He was using TurboSIM for the phone function. He just unlocked it with GeoHot's method today and removed the TurboSIM. It works like a charm.

You don't need to do it with file copying and terminals. Simply add http://installer.iclarified.com to your installer sources and install the unlock program in the iClarified category. You don't even to change to Flight mode.

I will help another friend to unlock his OTB 1.1.3 next monday.

HI guys i just got an iphone like a week and a half ago. I got it unlocked and using it with the Tmobile network. I was using fine for the first couple of days and then all of a sudden i couldnt send any SMS messages. I could receive them but i couldt send them to anyone. If theres anyone that can help me out on this issue i would really appreciate it! ANd im not the brightest when it comes to technology so if you can break it down that would be awesome.

Thanks

guys i need some detailed instructions

i got a new 113 two weeks ago. it has bootloader 4.6. i have a current valid at&t sim but not for iphone. how can i use this sim with my iphone without activating an iphone contract? do i have to downgrade to 111 to unlock. i heard phone function will be lost... please reply asap. i am sitting with this phone for two weeks now.
tx

man this is awesome :D im getting a replacement iphone tomorrow from apple because of a battery problem and well look a unlock for the new bootloader :D

..works 100% for me! :) i was on 1.1.1 ..then executed those scripts...few minutes and DONE!! later updated to 1.1.2...so im on unlocked 1.1.2 now and everything is working fine:) great soft!

worked for me also! Do yourself a favor and follow this guide http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=649 no need to downgrade or put stuff in using command center, this is installer based method.

When you get to the "starting the unlock" screen, the phone will seem to freeze, don't worry it will reboot itself and you can then insert your simcard and you are ready to go.

I was using OOB 1.1.2 jailbroken, using the iClarified update, once you're done, you need to install and set up iWorld, or the phone app will keep crashing..

Thanks for Geo-hot and iClarified, for making a "noobs" version

So I have been kind of following along but I have a Day One phone and its finally Jailbroken on 1.1.2 (Im assuming its Bootloader 3.9)

Should I use Apples update to 1.1.3 and then follow this method?
I am on contract with AT&T and dont plan on using any other SIM card in this phone for a long time if at all. Just want to make sure the official iTunes update will also update my bootloader before I goof anything up.

I unfortunately can't SSH into my iPhone from this network I am on otherwise Im sure I would be ahead of the game!
THanks

alright guys please help a n00b out.

i just bought a 16GB iphone yesterday. i'm sure it has the 1.1.3 firmware and the 4.6bl.

i went to the iClarified page like you guys so brilliantly pointed out but i'm seeing a problem here.

so i'm assuming these are the steps i need to take, start to finish:

1) downgrade to 1.1.1 (but see, i run in to a problem here because iClarified tells me i can't downgrade unless i'm running 3.9bl, which of course, i'm not.

does this mean i'm **** out of luck?

I am so glad I withheld donations from the dev team, the more I read about them the more they look like a bunch of dirty greedy f***s. They edited Hotz' post at hackint0sh to say "caution, may brick your phone."

Hotz gets the prize, indeed.

anyone can confirm that? I would like to buy a new iPhone, but I want software hack rather than using the TurboSim
