The easiest way that I've found is to use a crossover cable between your mac and pc and then just copy the files over.

You shouldn't even need a crossover cable, the MacBook NIC afaik is auto MDI/MDI-X sensing or whatever Apple call it. Just plugging in a normal RJ45 cat5 cable in should allow it work out what the Nic mode should be set too.

6. What are the options for COPY, PASTE, SELECT ALL in Mac?
- Urrr someone please update me on this:confused:
There is no cut in finder, but everywhere else it's cmd+X. Also, the other windows shortcuts (such as undo, alt+tab, I can't think of anymore) all work on a mac, with cmd+z and cmd+tab. If you have more than one safari window open, try cmd+~, and the best for freaking out OS X n00bs...

1. I Miss my Microsoft office program..
- Alternatives include open office at www.openoffice.org
- MS office 2004 edition for mac (runs crazily slow)

Be sure to upgrade RAM, preferably to 2GB. Then MS Office should run okay. The universal version of Office will obviously help too, but if you have a lot of RAM, apps using Rosetta run quite well.

2. How do i transfer itunes music from my PC to Mac?
- Check out apple's website
- Copy all your music on your PC onto a DVD, insert this DVD to your mac and startup itunes, click on file and click ADD to library

Just copy them across your network.

whats with the grin?

lol what command is tat?

I must admit when i first got my PB it was weird having all these tiny windows open everywhere. I was so used to expanding windows in windows XP. But now it all makes sense. So don't get into the habit of making the windows fill up your screen. Leave them the way they are. Its done so u can easily switch between programs and drag and drop.

Don't forget to play around with your Exposé keys they will save you so much time. Someone already suggested Cmd+~ which is great.

The Alt-tab you use in windows to cycle through programs is just cmd+tab in OS X.

Here is one I found yesterday. To get the 'e' with the little dash on top (like I have done in the word Exposé) do the following.
1) hold down option and press the 'e' key on your keyboard
2) let go of those keys and press the 'e' or 'o' or whatever key you want to add the little dash.
Cool, eh? well I think it is cool.

In dashboard if you want to kill a widget without having to click the '+' icon in the bottom left corner do this: option+cmd and move your mouse over the offending widget. The little 'x' should come up on the top left hand corner of the widget.

P.S. just buy MS Office for mac. I don't like using M$ programs, but Office is such a great program so I went ahead and bought it. Glad I did. Im sure OpenOffice is good though. Mine doesn't run slow. Im running 1 GB RAM.

i juz downloaded the istat widget, and looked at the ram available... it was using 480+ MB with itunes open and safari open, when i started to load iphoto, the whole damn thing lagged....

i guess i relaly do need a 2gb upgrade or 1gb?

4. How do i expand the browser, everything's too small!
Old trick. Should be easy to find by searching the topic, but I'll repeat it... ;)

Make two bookmarks in your Bookmarks bar, mine is called (N) for Normal size and (F) for Full screen. Right/ctrl-click the bookmark and Edit Address (Safari)/Edit properties (Firefox) and give them these addresses:

javascript:self.moveTo(0,0);self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);

javascript:self.moveTo(0,0);self.resizeTo(1024,screen.availHeight);

Play around until you've found the right sizes for you... :)

Is it just me or is "mac virgin" the term for new mac users on MR now? I had never this used in the year or so I've been here, until the three or so times I've seen it has been used in the last few days.

I also just recieved my new macbook, and i am really stumped.. hahaha (mac virgin)

I dont know anything so no laughing..
What program can i DL for MSN ? (preferably something as close to the Windows MSN as possible)

and whats up with 'eject'ing things? is that like delete? or are they still on my HDD ?

and why cant i move them once they are installed? i'm scared that i now have a whole bunch of fragments or even full files floating around my HDD that i didnt know about..

Instead of MNS download Adium. It lets u talk to MSN, AOL, Yahoo etc users.

When you insert a cd or install a new program it gets 'mounted'. When u eject it, it unmounts it. I don't know much about it  But always remember to unmount your iPod/external drives before disconnecting them.

Why do you want to move stuff? Your 'Applications' folder is just like the 'Program Files' folder on Windows. Just leave all your apps in there. Especially useful if u use a app launcher like Quicksilver and set it to only search your applications folder.

Correct me if im wrong but OS X defrags on the fly.

I'd just like to commend farqueue for editing his post to include the answers to the questions he posed in the first post. I only wish he had made it clearer that was the case 'cause I was wondering why people were giving him answers that were already in the first post ;)
