I just hope it works on non-m1 macs too. I have an iMac Pro and a m1 pro + an iPad Pro that's due to arrive tomorrow. Being able to control all 3 devices form my m1 Pro would be amazing while at my desk and m1 pro + ipad pro on the road.

It isn’t an M1-only feature, surprisingly:
  1. Available on MacBook Pro (2016 and later), MacBook (2016 and later), MacBook Air (2018 and later), iMac (2017 and later), iMac (5K Retina 27-inch, Late 2015), iMac Pro, Mac mini (2018 and later), and Mac Pro (2019); and iPad Pro, iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (6th generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later). Both devices must be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID using two-factor authentication. To use wirelessly, both devices must have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Handoff turned on and must be within 10 meters (30 feet) of each other. iPad and Mac must not be sharing a cellular and internet connection. To use over USB, you must trust your Mac on the iPad.

I just read what Universal Control is. It's basically Target Display Mode with multiple targets. I will be interested to see the list of supported devices. All of my older devices are potential monitors. If both machines have to run Monterey, then it will be less useful.

Yeah but you have to manually toggle/switch them. I want a seamless experience as I jump back and forth. 1-3s delays when you are doing that hundreds of times every day adds up.

I can already seem my work flow benefiting from Universal Control a huge ton, especially with an iPad Pro in the mix and being able to drag and drop things across devices.

Synergy is seamless. You just move from the edge of one monitor and it's on the next system. Bonus points for Cut and Paste across systems and file transfer between systems. I already use this between macOS and Windows systems.

It looks like there are several features only available on M1 Macs though, including portrait mode (FaceTime), Live Text in photos, interactive globe (Maps), and detailed new city experience (Maps).

I don't need much of an incentive to upgrade. It's been a long wait for Apple to get its hardware act in order. I just wished that they announced hardware today. Any idea which day they usually announce hardware?

They announced M1 on June 22, 2020 so a Monday. I guess we'll have to wait a few more days to see whether or not they announce.

What does it do different from Logitech Flow? I use that across two PCs and one Mac, and it works seamlessly. I can copy/paste text and files across devices and use one keyboard/mouse for all three.

This universal control works on iPads too and it’s native. So no need to have Logitech equipment or software

logitech options provides very similar functionality and works across different os's
Cool, does it let you drag files between devices too? I can already copy and paste between my Apple devices but what they demonstrated was next level.
