I have both machines and replaced the MBA once. I find the MBA fine now for a mobile computer. Im planning to buy a iMac to replace my MBP for more intensive operations. When my MBA was away though i felt a considerable difference between the MBA and the MBP. The MBA is simply a wonder to have. Make sure your computer doesn't have any issues if so sjobs@apple.com :)

Well I got in touch again with the Executive Relations person. They want me to go to the store to put in a repair order. It's probably just more economical for me to get rid of it and get a new mobile machine for me. I'd lose more money by doing a repair order while having no mobile machine.

how many times have you had your air sent in for repair? i think that exec. relations looked at my history and saw 2 repairs and i had a new problem. they're prob. more reluctant to just swap it out if you've never sent it in or have records of going to the genius bar.

I cant believe people would email Steve Jobs over something as trivial as a faulty laptop. For the love of god, leave the man alone and go the intended route for such things. That email should only be used to voice serious issues that should be brought to Steve's attention.

If everyone with a broken laptop, ipod emailed him the messages that deserve his attention will just drown in the sea of the unnecessary.

The man is kind enough to leave open a direct route for Apple fans to voice their concerns, how many CEO's do you know that do that? Let us not make the man regret it by abusing this option.

I super seriously doubt he actually reads any of those emails. He will have a team to deal with the emails sent to that address.

Of course he does, he has a buisness to run and a life to live, but he replies to some of the mails personally. So some of them come under his eyes.

I guess in most cases they do respond, but I wrote SteveJ and never heard anything....

I sent him a birthday note and received a thank you back last year. However, I am sure that he has an admin who reads and vets his sjobs@apple.com email and passes to him the ones he needs or would enjoy. I also agree that this is not the route to getting a problem solved. Following the protocol is always the best advice; the little people along the way need their strokes and can bottle neck your requests if they feel they have been dissed. I have seen it happen in our organization and I had to intervene to fix the customer's problem, or it would have remained on the back burner forever.

WOW.... if you really think that steve jobs gets on that email account and checks it thats pretty scary....... I'm sure there are a dozen or so people that filter through all those emails (I'm sure that account gets tons of "F apple, the iphone sucks" emails every day) and try their best to respond to letters sent by our thread starter

Even though what you say is completely false, the issue Im having with my MBA is not trivial. It's a major issue that afflicts many MBA's.

I work in tech support manning phones every day, not in the computer world, but medical devices.

Have you called tech support for any of the problems you are having? ..if not why not?

I did note that when the PR person contacted you your reply was that it was too inconvenent to take it in for service, will it be easier to have to switch to a different device?

or is it just easier to complain about the bad products that apple is making?

Personally my laptop is a 12" PowerBook that does everything I want it to, had a few bugs at first. I won't replace it until it dies or Apple brings out a tablet, but my wife replaces her laptop every year about

I think part of the problem is that I run an 8-core Mac Pro with 10GB of RAM as my main machine. I might be a bit jaded.

Anyone go from MBP to MBA or vice versa?

I went from a 15" MBP (2.16 Ghz/2GB) to an MBA. Love the MBA...no problems at all. My main machine is an 8-core Harpertown Mac Pro with 12 GB of RAM, so I don't mind the fact that the MBA is a tad less powerful than my old MBP.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up returning the MBA. I have the 2.5 Ghz MBP on order. I'm upgrading from a Powerbook 1.67 15" that served me well and I suspect the MBP will do the same.

The PR woman called back today asking when could I make it to an Apple store. I said Monday. She called the store and called me back about 20 minutes later. We'll see how it goes.

No magic trick is going to fix my MBA's issues, nor will the magic tricks fix the same issues afflicting many other MBA users since the launch of the MBA.

One bad product and you seem like you think that almost all MBA's have problem. It is only obvious that people you see in the forums are the ones who have complains. W/o any knowledge of the general population of MBA owners and the probability of defects among those owners, you can't really say that almost all MBA is defective or has issues.

The best route that you could have made is to go the the apple store and get it fixed not complain in the forums or email steve jobs.

Maybe not ones that are being sold now. Though it is disappointing to consistently see the same problems over the months on the different forums.

On the other side, It is good to see that Apple take the problems serious and give those people with complaints a new MBA or a new logic board.

Coming tuesday I get my new MBA and I will report here if there is any improvement in the later generation MBA's..

With kind regards,
Bas

Given all these issues people are having with the Air i wonder why apple didn't want to go for a lower clocked, maybe ULV processor...

sure, it'd be less of a performance system, but i think i'd take stability over performance

IMO, there were only problems on the earlier models. I had a week 2 with issues, it got swapped out with a week 13 that has had zero problems

It's the luck of the draw..... I guess I was lucky, as I have had absolutely NO problems with my MBA, which I bought and brought home on February 8th. A friend bought hers a couple of months later and again, no problems. I've got the SSD and she's got the 1.6 GHz 80 GB. I would venture to guess that in the overall scheme of things there are more MBA users who do NOT have problems than there are those who do. We see reports of problems on sites such as this but we usually don't see post after post reporting satisfaction with a machine that is working just as it should, doing just what it should.....
