Got an original iPad. Didn't upgrade until the Air came out (3 years.) Still have the Air (5 years and counting.)

The Pro models are nice, but they're not what I'm looking for. I'll probably upgrade to the then-current non-Pro when the Air finally stops getting OS updates.

Replaced an iPad 2 with the Air 2 and just replaced my Air 1 with IPP 10.5.
Upgrade cycle of 4-5 years.

My first iPad was the mini 2 which I bought right after its launch, so in November 2013. I was not really planning on upgrading it (it still worked well, if a bit slow), but then the 2018 iPad came out with the support for Apple Pencil. I decided to give it a go and I think it's the ultimate solution for someone like me who reads lots of documents and makes annotations on them - way better to have them stored in cloud than on the shelf lol. So I guess I will hold on to this device for the next couple of years - at least as long as I did with the mini.

Still on my original 12.9 Pro, since launch - I would love to get a new one, but can't really justify it and I don't really need it. It does seem to go at least 2 years in between these days now

Bought an iPad 2 when our son was born in June 2011. Got the iPad mini when that came out. As the 2 began to slow I picked up an iPad Air in 2013.

Have just retired these 3 iPads and replaced them with a new "iPad" for the wee man (To play Fortnite) and a 10.5 pro for myself and the Mrs.

Some but I don’t know about most. Since getting used to faceID on my iPhone I often get caught out when I need to press Touch ID to eg log into a website because I have a safari stored password - with faceID it just does it. I would also appreciate apple aligning the gestures between Iphone and iPad.

It's not about the convenience that we are concerned with, it's the security implications it has for potentially multi-user devices like the iPad.

If Apple makes it such that we can choose either FaceID or TouchID or even better, both as a form of 2FA, we will still be more than happy to upgrade our iPads as we see fit

iPad 2
Got slow when iOS 5.1.1 came out.

So iPad 3
Got slow when iOS 6 came out.

So iPad Air and iPad Mini 2
Got slow with iOS 9

Finally upgraded to iPad Pro 10.5.

iPad 2 -> iPad Pro 12.9" 1st Gen -> iPad Pro 10.5" -> iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd Gen

It was a long time between ipad 2 and ipp 12.9 for me as all the ipads in between were still...ipads
Though iPP 12.9" changed my use of ipad so I started upgrading more often, now I use my iPad daily at work. I'll probably upgrade to the 3rd gen 12.9" this autumn if it comes bezelless.

What made you go from the 12.9 to 10.5 back to 12.9? Did you try the smaller size and decide you didn’t like it?

After getting used to the size of 12.9" the 10.5" screen was too small for me, had eye strains, couldn't get used to reading same websites, opening same apps in a smaller screen. I loved the portability of it but that alone wasn't enough

3.5 years for my first iPad, an iPad 2. Still worked fine, but with selling it and the deal I got on my iPad Air two, it was basically a free upgrade. I’ve had that air 2 another 3.5 years and will probably keep it past 4. More frequent upgrades wouldn’t really benefit the way I use my iPads.

Gone from iPad 3 when first released, to Air 2 when first released and will get the Pro either 10 or 12.9 when released this year.

Still only have the original iPad. :p

I suspect my years-between-upgrades will be off the charts.

I have bought every one that has come out, with the exception of the mini 3. I have a problem.

Honestly, I use my LTE iPads a TON, so anything that may give me better function in a sketchy data service area is worth upgrading for.

Usually every second or third generation - started with the original iPad -> iPad4 -> iPad Pro 10.5. This year might be the exception if they move to a iPhoneX like form factor with reduced bezels and FaceID.

I’ve bought...

iPad 1 at launch
iPad 3 for the retina display
iPad mini 1 because the iPad 3 was like carrying round an anvil
iPad mini 2 for the retina display
iPad Air 2
iPad mini 4 because carrying round a full sized iPad is a faff
iPad Pro 9.7 for the pencil

Still use the iPad mini 4 more though as the size and weight is a consistent advantage over the pencil which is an occasional advantage.

Yesterday, I noticed that even I did not turn on LTE nor wifi, I could use Maps on my iPhone 6s+ to give directions. Not sure if this function worked because I had a sim card in the phone. If I do not put a sim card on the Wifi-LTE version of the iPad PRO, will I be able to use Maps to give directions?

My first ever iPad was the iPad 2. Kept that for about 3 years and got the Air. Just got the 6th gen base iPad last week after 5 years with the Air. So, Im extremely sloooooooooow to upgrade I guess. :)

Hey, if its working well then why replace it?

2016 9.7 IPad Pro here. Just recently replaced with a new one so the battery is good for years more.

Will consider getting a 2018 IPad Pro But the Release schedule is all messed up new ones won’t be here til July 2018 at least

Will try and hold out til 2019 and a 5G LTE Model is released.
