I used the On1 Plug-in to migrate my stuff over from LR to Photo Raw and man alive that took a long time. I just let my laptop run all night, and it was working hard. To be fair It was processing 7+ years of images, for me that was in the 24,000 range. I also had a lot of metadata, probably too much given what I'm seeing in On1. I can probably cut down on the keywords and my albums are too extensive. I used to create lots of albums for specific reasons, I've largely moved away from that these past few years. There's no harm in removing them now I suppose.

As for the interface, I'm just now spending time interacting with it, and the UI does take a fair amount of cues from LR. I'm finding the vertical scroll bars to be too thin. I'm in the browse module, and trying to scroll down, Its been interpreting my actions to grow or shink the panels and or hitting the right panel. An annoyance only and I suppose I'll get used to it and the issue should decrease.

Performance is not bad, but in areas not as fast as LR, mostly in switching from browse to edit. I'm used to some of the automatic settings of LR, I've been underwhelmed by them in Photo Raw.

Overall, however it seems to be a worthy contender, but like what others have stated in their reviews. Photo Raw's database system not as self contained as LR's catalog system. I can easily migrate a catalog and images to a different computer. I don't know if that's easily possible with Photo Raw. More importantly, backing up that database. To my understanding its in the appdata and I'll be googling around and on On1 to see what options I may have for backups.

I do like seeing the support for cloud drives, like OneDrive baked into the app. That's a big plus and I may modify my workflow to include cloud storage.

Let me add, it seems to be less resource intensive then LR, though I've not done any masking, using of layers spot removal, which I find to be a bit laggy on LR

You can get 50% off if you are a photography student. I try to take at least one class a semester - I can't swing more with my full time job. Since classes run about $300 that's half of my tuition back. That student ID gets you all sorts of discounts so you can usually get your paid tuition for in discounts.

I've tried ON1 and Luminar and both are great products and I've used them for a little while, but I just can't seem to get 100% away from Lightroom. Plus since I'm into mobile photography, Adobe has some nice apps that work great in an iPad and iPhone.

This is me as well. I am very comfortable with Lightroom and Photoshop if I want to do some serious editing. For me, it’s not so much about price (though who doesn’t want to save money?) it’s about features and workflow. If I am going to switch, whatever I go to needs to be an improvement over what I have and how I work. So far, after playing with other products, they still aren’t even at the level for Adobe for my uses so I haven’t seen the need to switch.

The last time I tried both, was back in 2017 and if memory serves me (and it usually doesn't), neither had a DAM aspect both were just photo editors. On1 now has this and I believe Luminar does. I tried Luminar back then and I just could work within its process, that is, the work flow of Luminar seemed counter to what I wanted to do. I think maybe it was my lack of understanding of the app, I'm not sure if much as changed since 2017.

I bought On1 on sale back then and so I've had the license in my back pocket. Upgrading to 2019 was short money and that buys my more time to play with.

Overall, I can see myself using this instead of LR. The thing with Lightroom, I can let the license expire and I still have access to the library module. So I can choose how I want to transition over to On1, i.e., all at once and convert my library or just use On1 for all new stuff I opted for former and migrated my entire library over and that too a long time as I said in post #26
