I'm trying to figure out what display to buy with my Mac Pro. I mostly use Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and Aperture. I've never owned a 30" display, so it's difficult for me to gauge what would increase my productivity more: A single 30" display, or two 23" displays?

Given a choice, what would you pick, and why?

If you aren't totally commited to 1920x1200, and you want to save some money, and have a higher quality picture, you might want to look at a 3rd party 20.1" LCD. I just purchased a pair of LG L204WTs. It even has a silver bezel.

You don't get the the hubs, but I don't know how important that is to you.

I should add, if anyone is interested in going this route, the LG L204WT is on sale at CircuitCity this week for $309.99. 5ms response time, 1680x1050, 800:1 contrast ratio, 2000:1 dynamic contrast ratio using some special firmware trick, 160 degree H&V viewing angles.

In a Mac box
1 30" would be better. You do not need 46" of screen. Thats pretty much for bragging rights. 30" will provide PLENTY of viewing space and as mentioned before you will not strain your neck. Even with 30" you will need a great gfx card and a lot of ram. (to make it run nice) does your pro have an x1900?

Personally I would go for 1 or 2 23"ers. I was in an Apple Store the other day and while I like a big tv, the 30" for working on is just too big. It's kind of how the 20" iMac looks great but the 20" lampshade looked ridiculous, that big screen on that neck. And I'm not a fan of two screens unless you feel that the apps you are using really need it. Otherwise 1 23" screen is enough real estate and doesn't look out of proportion.

I was wondering the same thing. I decided on one 30".

Why? Because once I talk my wife into letting me, I am going to get another one. There is no such thing as too much real estate. Getting 2 23" puts you at a ceiling.

But then again, I always seem to want the latest greatest and biggest. When the keynote showed the iTV, I showed my wife and she rolled her eyes. I told her to get used to it, she knew how I was when she married me. :)

Either way I know you wont be disappointed.

Only CRT's are measured from corner to corner...

LOL! That was great! Isn't it great when you laugh aloud just from reading some of these posts? :D

If I had the money, I would definately get the 30". But for what you are using it for, the two 23 inchers would probably suit you better. Also, if you became strapped for cash one day, you could sell one and still have a monitor.

Only CRTs are measured from corner to corner...that was great!!

Does anyone know how "Spaces" will work with 2 monitors?

In the current develop version, it does. There are some screen shots out on the web.
